i've got my drivers seat at a local upholstery shop now, getting the outer bolster re-covered. They shop had to order some leather, had an old leather swatch book "bmw leather", silver gray looked like a perfect match, so i dropped off my sun beaten rear head rests too (should be enough leather to recover those as well). Will post some pics when the seat is back. This shop did a local guy's m3, he supplied his own leather (bought off ebay.de) and they did his door panels, console etc, everything. Really nice workmanship.

Hey, let me know how it comes out... How much did they charge for the outer bolster? I need to have that done too.

got the seat back today. Wow, perfect color match, new leather obviously doesn't have the 'patina' of 19 year old leather, but it looks great. Enough leather to take care of a door panel or two as well.

Cost breakdown; $250 for 'half a hide' of bmw silver-gray napa leather. $150 to fix the bolster, and they also fixed the drive cables (recently developed the 'seat twist') and another $100 to recover the rear head rests. Once the car is back together, i'll drive it by for them to look at and measure out the door panels. One option is to fix/re-glue the viny, and make leather inserts for the center part, or recover the whole thing in leather (that'd be nice, i'd at least like to maybe do the door pulls in leather too).

I'll post some pics when i get them.

This was superior auto upholstery, in concord, ca. (off monument). Jose is the shop owner and does most of the leather work himself.
