Fake E36 M3??

I spotted this car today in town, and I saw the ///M batch when it went past me. The batch was not ///M3 but ///M. And I noticed that it only had 1 exhaust pipe. I was wondering if it's a fake M3?

From the picture, do you think it's a regular 3-series or a real M3 (I dont know if those wheels only came with M3s)?

Sorry about the quality but I couldnt take a close shot... it's 3X optically zoomed, 2X digitally zoomed.... and then 2.5X zoomed in Paint Shop Pro 7 ehehehe...

Yeap It's a Fake M3

In Turkey we have lots of M technic BMW 3 series. However this one is even not M technic. Wheels are 16" and the exhaust gives the game away.

Ehehe
Funny
we were hanging in town and we saw a real M3 this time :P

I live in a 3000 people town, and appart from a guy who has the new 740i, we rarely see any BMW. Now we saw "2" BMW M3 (well one...) in the same day :P

UPDATE: my girl friend (not girlfriend hehe) just told me that she saw a M Coupé too today!! WTF!!!

I think this one is a fake as well. Having come from a E36M3 prior to my M5, I'm pretty familiar with the different configurations.

Why I think this is fake:
1) the color (avus blue) was only available on 95 M3s. But they didn't make a convertable for that model year. There was an engine switch from 3.0 to 3.2 in 96, and they also switched the available blues. Avus blue (dark blue) was replaced by Estoril Blue (a lighter shade).

2) No rear air diffuser

Be careful about the side skirts. BMW also made "luxury edition" M3s with M Contour Wheels, more leather, and wood dash pieces. On these "luxury edition" models the side skirts were from the normal 3 series and were not the M side skirts. The way to tell if you are looking at a luxury edition is to look at the front. Luxury edition models had a slotted front grill instead of the mesh front grill.

pictures from my old "lux edition" M3 (I miss her! )

Yes, there is another fake M3 cabrio. Look at the black trim around the car. On M3 cars they are wider and have M3 badge in front of the doors. Also the rear diffuser is missing.
I haven't seen an avus blue cabrio either but it could be ordered in indivudual program.

The only time that one could possibly justify a spoiler like that on a BMW is to first have every other modification money can buy. If you have upgraded brakes, rims and tires, suspension, engine mods, exhaust system and every body mods on a brand new M3 I might be able to accept an all out racing spoiler, but why would anyone in their right minds put a spoiler meant to create downforce at 180 mph on a regular car. Those aren't even M3's!

I'm horrified. I thought BMW owners had more sense than that. BLAH.
