talking Euro M3 Engine, "the best in the world after McLaren F1"

Found some nice quotes:

Seriously though: BMW NA executives, you're making a mistake, no longer giving us the engine trumpeted by BMW in the rest of the world.

I've driven "Euro"-engined E36 M3s over 10,000 miles -- in North America, continental Europe and the U.K. In all manner of conditions and stress levels, from 400-rpm 1st gear ascents of London car-park spirals to 155 mph chip-limited wails through autobahn bends. The engine never failed to deliver.

In 30 years I have driven only one car with an engine as sweet -- the McLaren F1. (Small wonder -- I sup- pose -- the McLaren V-1 2 is basically two M3 engines sharing an angle.) Nothing else comes close to this combination of race-track prowess and tractor-like grunt, with a torque "curve" that is uniquely flat through almost the entire power band. Incredibly, the latest 3.2 liter variant sounds even better: 321 hp, more torque at 2000 rpm than its predecessor's maximum and -- is it Christmas? -- better gas mileage.

There's little doubt in the motoring press that the M3 is one of the best sedans in the world. Doesn't it deserve the engine the M folks designed for it? Everywhere in the world, including North America?

the McLaren V-1 2 is basically two M3 engines sharing an angle, yup, thus half as fun.

^^

Are these P/N's secret?

Anyways, one of the engine covers of the F1, I believe it fits the S50 directly.

It's a pleasure to drive.

Last month while at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, I ran into an American doing a ED (his export plates gave him away).

We talked a while and in the end, took him for a short trip around the Ring area. Having never seen a Euro E36 M3 before, let alone an SMG, he really liked it and mentioned it sounded just like an S54.
