Airboxes

Hello everyone. I just registered, hoping all of you will be able to help me answer some questions I have on euro E36 M3's. I own #19 of only 45 "euro" M3's imported into Canada back in 1994. I LOVE IT! I also own a US spec 1997 M3 3.2 and it doesn't compare to my euro 3.0L.

My first question is: Does anyone have any experience, opinions, etc. regarding the airboxes that are available for the S50 B30 and S50 B32 engines? Many tuners (Hamann, Schnitzer, KK Motorsport, MK Motorsport, H&H Motorsport, Digitec, Evolution II, etc.) include such airboxes as part of their performance package. So I'm assuming there is some gain (i.e. HP and torque increase) with them.

What do you think?

Airboxes

I did a Turner Airbox + Large aRemoved.s sensor+ Conforti chip combo about 6 weeks ago and liked the results. Only real surprise was amount of intake noise (VERY throaty, Nice IMO)

Don't know what accounted for what powerwise but I suspect that the order of improvement would be Chip-MFS-airbox. Airbox alone would probably add good sounds but little real HP.

Haman airboxes

Has anybody fitted the Hamman air box kit either on their 3.0 or 3.2? It is stated that it should give an approx rise in BHP of around 30. (to a total of 35bhp for the EVO).

Hi, I was wondering were you bought your euro m3? I stumbled upon willz.ca and they are currently importing e34 m5s but on their hompage they didn't have any info on the m3.
It must be charm to own a euro M3, I'm looking for a euro 3.2 m3.

thx

I'm sure it's a beautiful car.

I would try looking in England. They're many aftermarket distributors in the UK, and they speak-a-the-english, and they parts are all for euro spec.

Just search 'BMW UK' and you'll get a zillion sites.

Or ask www.bmw-club.org.uk these guys.

Shipping may be a pretty penny though.

Your right bug'. The UK has it's fair share, but they command high prices as the demand is good. If this was a route to take, then it would be advisable to contact a few of the clubs as there is normally a number for sale via them. hey could then be able to help with purchase/inspection/verification of history etc.

Try looking on www.autotrader.co.uk and using their search facility selected to 'national', this would give you an idea of whats about.

Andy G,
Once I read an article called Super heated on BMW Magazine and the featured car was an estoril Blue euro-spec M Coupe. The car was modified by Hamann. It had exhaust system which was supersprint, re-programed ECU and airbox. Total gain was 28 hp as the car had 349hp vs. 321 hp as stock. I believe an airbox won't help you gain much as a chip gives you 10 hp and M coupe exhaust system provides another 10 hp as I saw it on supersprint product catalog.
It is better to use ligher flywheel or under drive pulleys. Or maybe the best option would be to go for a shorter diff. to increase acceleration especially in 4th-5th and 6th gear. Expecting a 35 hp gain with an airbox won't be realistic as we have 100 hp/L out of this 3.2 L engine.

you must be right, it sounds right what you're saying.
I am very sceptical over gains unless they are backed up by something or another!
