So I was in my backyard today picking up some oil for the beast at Valencia BMW. I have been tempted to check out the new GTR. rated on my history, when I "check out cars" I always end up coming home with them. As obvious, when the salesmen see the beast pull in they immediately stretch their necks and begin a walking race towards me. And the first one to reach me says, "coming to check out our new supercar?". I smiled and introduced myself to him and we made our way to the showroom where they had a dark silver one, surrounded by blockades like it was a piece at a museum.
I asked if I could see inside, and he replied that he would need to have the manager speak to me directly about that. I see him walk to the manager and their conversation looks to be not going so well, obviously because the GM of the dealership took one look at me and assumed I was just a "looker". So the salesman walks back to me and says "we do not have the key for the car right now", which is the most ridiculous excuse I have ever heard.
At this point, everyone who knows me can imagine my next move. I walked right into his damn cubicle and let hime know exactly what I thought. And demanded that he give me the number to Nissan North America. We exchanged some heavy converstaion and I made my way outside. He followed me and when he saw the M5, he got that "jackass in the corner" look in his face. Then has the audacity to tell me, "I did not know you were that type of customer, please come inside". I asked him what the f*** does that mean and told him to f*** off.
Needless to say, I will never come back to this dealership. I know this is a hot car, but I did not have this type of reaction when I purchased my beast. And I was a regular walk in at Beverly Hills BMW. BMW does not have barracades around their cars to where you cannot even look at the interior, and to me, that makes all of us as customers feel much more welcome. Nissan should take a huge not from this.
Wow, that sucks to hear. I always see the sales guys outside hanging around at the front every time I pass by Creekside. I think I saw one the down the street at Lexus on the lawn.
It's a good point and a good lesson. I sold cars for a huge Nissan Dealer and also an Infiniti dealer about 13 years ago. Did my best to never judge people.
One of the reasons it happens, is that day in and day out, you do get a fair share of people that will waste your time, but that comes with the territory, and you never really know who they are during the sales process, so it's just better and smarter to treat everyone as a viable customer.
Also, I was a registered investment specialist (i.e. portfolio manager / stock broker). One day, a conservative, unassuming potential client and I talked for a long time. At the end, he took out his check book and wrote a $300,000 check to open an account. Then a week later, he brought in $1.2 Million worth of stock certficates for deposit. You just never know. Plus life is more pleasant if you don't judge people and just are a decent person.

For the most part I have always been judged by car dealers. Last time I wasn't was when I leased this car...I went in dressed in my normal attire (jeans & sleeveless) and my salesperson was very nice and treated me with respect...therefore I did not shop around and didnt even bother haggling...
