STOCKHOLM — A Swedish court last week granted Saab an extension to its protection from creditors as a local newspaper named three potential buyers for the General Motors unit, Reuters reported.
Saab was granted an extension until Aug. 20, enabling it to line up a new owner and restructure its business.
Swedish business daily Dagens Industri reported that the two front-runners to buy Saab were Swedish luxury carmaker Koenigsegg and Renco Group, a U.S. investment company. Fiat S.p.A. was named as the third suitor. Saab spokeswoman Gunilla Gustavs declined to comment on the report.
He probably just wants it to remain a genuine Swedish automaker, and not just an assembler of other company's cars! Or worse yet, disappear altogether.
I never really liked what GM was doing with Saab. To me, Saabs need to remain Saabs, and have their own unique flavor. The more automotive diversity, the better, I say.

Given the current economic climate, I question if throwing money at Saab for pride's sake is such a wise expenditure.

When Christian was here last, I had a chance to speak with him and get to know him a little bit. He's a really nice guy, but totally unassuming; I don't think he would base any decision off of pride. He's very knowledgeable and very wise, and calculates decisions based off of the most optimal impact of their end result. If he's seriously considering buying Saab, there must be a very good reason behind it.

One would hope. GM has done much to ruin Saab's reputation (such as it was), so it's quite a hill to climb.
