Together with my Dubai business partners, I am launching a new street rally format called "Ultimate Rally" in 2006. Seven days, 5000 kilometers, and $2 mio prize money. 4 checkpoints, 1 finishline. The first 3 cars share $150.000 CASH at every checkpoint (100K, 30K, 20K) and $1.4 mio at the finish line ($1 mio, 250K, 150K). Advanced GPS & UMTS handhelds will be used to track all cars in realtime (speed & routing statistics). This will prevent cheating and all drivers receive the routes at the same time. We are now working on the legal aspects to protect the organizers. Watch out for the launch of www.ultimaterally.com by the end of this year and start spreading the word.
I like to hear your questions, opinions, suggestions and criticism. Thank you,
Kimble
That is a new twist to the Gumball Rallies. It should certainly up the competitiveness quite a bit, but I would be concerned about exactly that in combination with drivers with more money than skills. Fatalities could happen. It certainly will generate a lot of publicity. Something like a deathmatch on wheels?

I think this is a recipe for disaster. Lots of money on the line, some drivers going balls to the wall to win it. However I think there is a way around it and that's to certify that every driver has some level of skill. Maybe each driver taking part should be forced to take a couple of 3 day courses, set up by Kimble teaching them how to drive their car. There should probably also be ground rules laid out, certain rules that shouldn't be broken or you get time penalties.
The Ultimate Rally is aimed to be the most challenging driving event ever. The drivers will have to combine driving skills with realtime strategic planing & thinking. The only qualifications you need to participate is a fast car, 2 build in cameras (one facing the road, one facing driver & co-driver) and you will have to deliver your tapes at every checkpoint to the organization. We wont bore the drivers with lame parties. We will make sure you get enough sleep in exclusive setups. At the end of the event the participants will spend 2 luxurious days together, the best photos and films will be shown, live video conferencing with participants in hospitals, and the most amazing celebrations for the winners.
It sounds like the Ultimate Rally alright! I think you have a unique concept here if you can get the legal aspects sorted out. I could not help smiling a bit about the "live video conferencing with participants in hospitals" part.

There will be a starting fee. Not yet decided how much. More then 10K.
As of now the rules will be:
1. You have to participate in a car with inside & outside cameras.
2. You have to capture your entire run on film.
3. You have to hand your film material at each checkpoint to the organizers.
4. You have to participate with our GPS / UMTS handheld tracking device.

Bad idea HP eats gas if you want a 1000hp viper thats fine I would take a large comfortable deisel sedan tuned for power and with an after market gas tank say 200-250 litre plus stock tank you'd have you could run evey stage with out stopping... i might have a lower top speed but I'll scream past you while you are doing 0mph in the gas station.

Maybe my idea takes abit of the thrill of driving fast on public roads away, but what about having drivers put up the fastest times on a selection of racetracks, and award the prizemoney to the one thats fastest around the track. I know that international racetracks probably are difficult and expensive to rent, but i'm sure trackdriving will bring out some pretty exotic and fast machinery, i mean that for example Lonmans GT2 would most sertainly beat the crap out of a sl55 on a track.
Depending on which continent, i would try and do all the stages at night! Each day equals new country with no repeats.
That way, Joe Public won't bother insisting on the police busting balls every 5 mins and by the timne they mobilise were in another country. Oh, and keep the route a secret until the start of each stage.
Also, winner must give the money to a favourite charity? Good P.R.

I assume the 'Handing your tapes in at every checkpoint' rule is there for the media coverage/film to be made, therefore, you need to be running during the daytime, so you can 'interact' with other road users!!
Car wise for this event you need something with big fuel tanks, fast and reliable. Kimble will agree with me, it has to be German? A diesel will not cut it too slow. I know a BMW diesel tuned will do 150mph,.....but too slow. I got to Casablanca first, Kimble second (sorry, could not resist that one...!) we were both followed by 360's who reckoned they did 150mph the whole way. My point is that we pretty much sat at 180mph+ the whole way.....and so if you can't sustain 180mph+ (Ferrari's, tuned Skylines can't...not open for discussion.) find something that can. The key is not a diesel (you simply don't have the top end), but a big fuel tank. The real equation you have to look at is the one between tank size/handleing. My Gt2 has a 64 litre tank, but it is possible to customise the front of the car to the tune of another 110 litres. Total = 174 litres and pretty crap handleing. We are exploring a custom tank behind the front seat, for better balance....
The ultimate car would be a RUF Turbo R with 200+ litre tanks. 211mph top end, very reliable, safer than a GT2 and with a 500 mile tank range.
The race sound fun though.......Where do I send the deposit??
