Together with my Dubai business partners, I am launching a new street rally format called "Ultimate Rally" in 2006. Seven days, 5000 kilometers, and $2 mio prize money. 4 checkpoints, 1 finishline. The first 3 cars share $150.000 CASH at every checkpoint (100K, 30K, 20K) and $1.4 mio at the finish line ($1 mio, 250K, 150K). Advanced GPS & UMTS handhelds will be used to track all cars in realtime (speed & routing statistics). This will prevent cheating and all drivers receive the routes at the same time. We are now working on the legal aspects to protect the organizers. Watch out for the launch of www.ultimaterally.com by the end of this year and start spreading the word.

I like to hear your questions, opinions, suggestions and criticism. Thank you,
Kimble

There will be a starting fee. Not yet decided how much. More then 10K.

As of now the rules will be:
1. You have to participate in a car with inside & outside cameras.
2. You have to capture your entire run on film.
3. You have to hand your film material at each checkpoint to the organizers.
4. You have to participate with our GPS / UMTS handheld tracking device.

Any suggestions for additional rules?

How about speed limit on sertain parts of the course where things could get dangerouse?

should be posible with gps / umts to track that

and maybe a little background info on the driver
wanting to take part on the race ?

some idea,s.....

Keep up the good driving:wroom:

...and so if you can't sustain 180mph+ (Ferrari's, tuned Skylines can't...not open for discussion.) find something that can.
I'm not an expert on super sports cars, but as an average car enthusiast I'm just curious to know what prevents e.g. Ferrari 360 (or Gallardo or similar car) to be driven hard for a long time?

Is there some fundamental technical "problem" in 360's engine's durability at high continuous rpm's or is the engine cooling inefficient? Or probably there just wasn't a Ferrari driver this year who had guts to push really hard? (BTW there was at least one Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale this year)

I have always thought that 360 and, let's say, GT3 are very similar cars in most aspects. :confused2 The truth being, of course, that GT2 is in a class of its own...

Ferrari's are not reliable when driven hard for long durations. ( Yes, I know they win races,....but I am talking about road Ferrari's)

I did the Gumball this year with one of the top Ferrari mechanic's in the UK. At the end of every stage this year he was busy fixing Ferrari's (about 30-40 in total) They look nice though...

I assume the 'Handing your tapes in at every checkpoint' rule is there for the media coverage/film to be made, therefore, you need to be running during the daytime, so you can 'interact' with other road users!!

Car wise for this event you need something with big fuel tanks, fast and reliable. Kimble will agree with me, it has to be German? A diesel will not cut it too slow. I know a BMW diesel tuned will do 150mph,.....but too slow. I got to Casablanca first, Kimble second (sorry, could not resist that one...!) we were both followed by 360's who reckoned they did 150mph the whole way. My point is that we pretty much sat at 180mph+ the whole way.....and so if you can't sustain 180mph+ (Ferrari's, tuned Skylines can't...not open for discussion.) find something that can. The key is not a diesel (you simply don't have the top end), but a big fuel tank. The real equation you have to look at is the one between tank size/handleing. My Gt2 has a 64 litre tank, but it is possible to customise the front of the car to the tune of another 110 litres. Total = 174 litres and pretty crap handleing. We are exploring a custom tank behind the front seat, for better balance....

The ultimate car would be a RUF Turbo R with 200+ litre tanks. 211mph top end, very reliable, safer than a GT2 and with a 500 mile tank range.

The race sound fun though.......Where do I send the deposit??
Correct, it has to be mostly daytime, for the Movie. But there are brand new highways (hundreds of miles), like in the Czech Republic, where the tolls are so expensive that the locals cant afford them. Meaning: No traffic jams!

We might focus on poor countries, with a mix of cool new roads and challenging road conditions, slow police cars, very low police salaries (you know why).

We will have standby learjet transportation for injured participants, to get them quickly into first world hospitals if necessary.

Another rule has been added: You have to finish the Rally in the same car you started with. BUT you can repair it and change parts if you have to.

Rob, i am happy you are interested in this new format. This is being developed for people like you and me. And believe me, we are not alone :)

Hey Kimble! Great to see you back in action, as you can imagine lots of rumors regarding your persona! Not that, that would be news too you. Followed your career a bit. Anyway I can imagine your feelings towards Germany, I am seriously comtemplating of emigrating to China, but that is a different story .

As for your race. Personally, speaking it would be beneficial if it would be legal. Hence at least "approved" by the hosts government (as was the case in Morocco with the Gumball race this year). The reason for this is simple. I can only fathom what type of media attention your race would attract. I know that my employer ("german" bank) would fire me, if they knew I would participate in such a race. How ever if it where "legal" the risk would be a lot lower for me. I can imagine that quite a few other people who would be interested, are in a similar situation. Off course one could always consider a solution similar to that of Torquenstein, as long as one´s identity would be handled confidentially.

AS for rules! Well

1) no Diesels!
Otherwise I would consider a Phaeton Diesel V10 tuned, with an increased tank solution 250 litres. I am sure that the car would be a serious threat contrary to Lonman´s view on Diesels :D
2) What about saloons? I mean we want exotic cars, and not everyone to turn up in mercedes AMG´s, brabus, RS6´s or have 20 "cl 3000´s" and the sort or?
3) What will be the restrictions on cars? As to what car I can use? Or can people appear in race cars? Which might be road legal in some countries.
4) Besides the possibility of drivers getting killed (which isn't a concern to me, everyone should be aware of the possibility), the organizers needs to take precautions for possible spectators, and by standers, I would want to know what measures will be put in place to "protect them". ie, closed of highways or so...
5)Maybe even make rollcages mandatory? They do work, and would seriously reduce the chance of death at high speed crashes.
6)Cars need a unique paint job. Like Lonman´s UK flag on the GT2, makes the cars more interesting.
7) Each team needs to bring a mascot (or a few). The mascot needs to be Female, and she needs to be pretty!!!!
8) Security for the parking lot, no one should be allowed to sabotage the cars. This might sound weird, but when that much money is on the line...
9) Since this would be a real race, how is the start going to work?

So will I participate in 2006, well I am a young lad still (at 25), and it will depend on my bonus this year, and the next. No way will I enter if I cannot afford a solution that gives me a serious chance to win :D Unlike a lot of people I don't enter things to "have done them", I enter them to win them, even though with Kimble and Lonman in them my chances might be slim.

BTW great website, been following it for a while.

No bankers!!!

1, Why no diesels????? If a diesel can be as fast as a non-diesel car, than let it win the race!!!!!!

2, From the price of a Brabus SV12 you can buy 2 used 575 Maranellos or even two used Murcielagos!!! Than what is that if not an exotic?????

All well and good. Diesels have a place in this world. But you have to do a Gumball Rally or two ( Kimble and I have done lots) to realise that if the car will not stick at 160-180mph+ constantly, ....it hasn't got a hope of winning. I stick by my first comment, the diesel car has not a chance against a 'modified' fuel tank' performance car. Do the maths.

Diesels are nice though....

You would beat any diesel, even without a modified fuel tank. You would even have a chance of winning if you start 20 minutes behind the field. At the end its not about fuel consumption/capacity, but about driving FAST in any condition = rain, traffic, police, etc.. You have to be a skillful and fearless driver to win The Ultimate Rally. Lesser fuelstops wont make the champion.

Good luck to those driving Players Run and Bullrun this year. Please spread the word about The Ultimate Rally. Thanks.

Sorry Gustav, but after this dialogue I have to quote a few word in German uncommented:

Morgen,

I've had the exact same problems on my 911 Ruf Rturbo as on my 575 and 360 - zero. A few electrical gremlins on all of them, but no real problems that ever prevented me from driving.

Sold the Ruf due to small fuel tank - just hated refueling every 150 miles when crossing europe! Took the 575 for Gumball as I think the 360 is underpowered - it simply lacks torque and real power above 150.

I do agree that one of the best cars would be a Ruf Rturbo with a 200 litre tank.

Thought this was a Gumball forum, and not a kimble-egotrip one. Kim, why not making your own forum on your website, so we don't have to read your bullshit here.

Btw, is the gumball becoming a rental car rally?
You dont have to read anyones bullshit. The topic of this Thread says "KIMBLE" and if you dont like that, dont click on it, dont read it. I am not here to be diplomatic. I write what i like. My sense of humor might not be compatible with yours. This is going to be my only flame reply. Dont like to waste my time with chickens. Other then that, I think this is a great Forum and Gustav is doing a good job. Take it easy. kinggf

A nice guy had the time to translate the above text:

Morning,

if you guys had seen the crazy balloon at Gumball then you'd realize that there was no bigger show off at the place than him.
At the closing party no one was around him. He literally had to beg the reporters for an interview.

I feel sorry for the guy. Someone that can't even pay for dinner cannot be trusted.

Regards

You have obviously not been there. As everyone can see on my Gumball 2004 picture page, I spend the evening with my co-driver Mohammed and some drivers from Hong Kong (where i live). But on the toilet i am lonely, most of the time. HAHA

I dont need to be on TV. Everybody knows me allready :)

Your posting here only reflects a jelouse german attitude. And the fact that you dont even speak english reflects your poor level of education. No need to say more.
