A European dimension…
A unique event, that should not be missed, the Supercar Rally provides an amazing itinerant show to all those who love the very best in terms of automobiles. On September 30th this year, approximately 50 cars will reach Baden Baden (Germany) before heading for Saint-Tropez, via Lugano (Switzerland) and Monaco. This brand-new route will add an international element to the Supercar Rally, which will also see greater participation from the manufacturers.
What exactly is a Supercar? It must be said that a precise definition does not exist, as the cars which fall into this category are characterised by their exclusivity. Made as one-off pieces or in limited series by major manufacturers and top designers, they are the embodiment of the ultimate in Grand Touring cars, gathering together all the superlatives. Quite simply, dream cars. Thanks to the Supercar Rally, this dream can come true for the general public, who can at last admire these moving works of art outside the glossy magazines or the carpeted floors of motor shows and museums.
Away from the static displays, too often the fate of these cars, the Supercar Rally allows the automobile constructors and designers a unique opportunity to display their creations in movement. The owners of these most beautiful cars can also enjoy the qualities of their machines by sharing a few moments of conviviality and passion. “The event has now reached a certain level of maturity,” explained Stephane Ratel, President of SRO. “After Audi, Bentley, Maserati, Lamborghini and Peugeot, we wanted other manufacturers to join us in the Supercar Rally. Therefore, we are adapting our formula, putting into place a TV production company, and entrusting the public relations to a specialised agency.”
The Supercar Rally is neither a speed event (the competitors have to respect the Highway Code at all times) nor an amble through the countryside: it is an itinerant show, combined with a regularity event, without stress or pressure. The route selected for the event allows the competitors to discover landscapes and locations just as exceptional as the cars they will be driving.
This year, the event will follow a European route, using roads in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France and Monaco! The alpine section, selected by former French Rally Champion, Jean Vinatier, should be the highlight of the itinerary. As every year, the Rally will stop at a racetrack, where the cars will be able to ‘stretch their legs’ during a time trial. This year, the circuit selected is the Paul Ricard High Tech Test Track.
As far as the field is concerned, it is, of course, too early to unveil the entry list. Among the twenty or so cars which have already been entered, there are two cars which are totally emblematic of the Supercar: the Ferrari Enzo and the Porsche Carrera GT. Aston Martin, Bentley, Lamborghini, Lotus and Mercedes are also well represented. A promising start!
