It´s true! This car was built between october 1989 and late 1990. AMG modified the engine, suspension and designed a body-kit for it.

Could it be one of AMG´s best creations yet?

Nope , AMG was just responsible for the body kit and badges, not to mention the white AMG guages. Had nothing to do with the mechanics of the car. But with a few lil mods here and there could thoroughly trounce an E39 M5 in the 1/4 mile! Not bad for such an Ugly car!

Are you sure about this? Of what I understand AMG tuned the engine, and then Mitsubishi built it to AMG´s specifications. Same goes for the suspension.

My guess is that it would need to be heavily modified to trounce an E39 M5 in the quarter mile, since this car is FWD and has a N/A 2-litre engine producing 170 bhp at 6750 rpm and 191Nm of torque at 5000 rpm.

It doesn´t seem to have white gauges either, or?

That motor is 100% Mitsubishi! As well as the suspension. Yes they have a turbocharged AWD version of this car as well with a white guage dash that says AMG. The turbocharged one modded will eat the M5's lunh in the 1/4 mile or u can take it further, mod it more an annhilate the E39 M5.

Ok, I see. Interesting. Do you have any more information about the turbocharged version, or know where I can find more info? I´ve been searching the web and looked at different Galant websites, but they doens´t mention this model. Does it share engine etc. with the VR4? The VR4 Monte Carlo seems to be pretty fast with 240 bhp.

I came across the brochure of the AMG-version. There are two version in there, but they seem to share the same N/A engine:

I believe I googled or used the yahoo search and came up with a few sites with owners when i had a dicussion about this ugly car before. I know it's there but too tired to search this morning. It's 7am over here in the Eastern US. Thank God I'm home sic from work though. It's freezing out here in NYC. 2 mugs of hot cocoa to ya!
