What year is the Gallardo? I understand they've gotten a substantial power increase in latter year(s).

I´m not sure but this is the 500 hp Gallardo.

The power increase you mention is up to 520 hp, and the gear ratio is a bit different, giving the 520 hp Gallardo just a bit better acceleration...that is what Lamborghini is saying.

I don´t think the outcome would be different if I´m honest to you.

Here are the numbers for the Gallardo E-Gear 500 hp:

Gewicht 1580 kg
0 - 80 km/h 3,2 s
0 - 100 km/h 4,2 s
0 - 120 km/h 5,6 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 7,0 s
0 - 160 km/h 8,5 s
0 - 180 km/h 11,1 s
0 - 200 km/h 13,3 s

and this is the best time it´s got in a test...

...and here are the numbers for the Gallardo E-Gear 520 hp:

Gewicht 1640 kg
0 - 80 km/h 3,3 s
0 - 100 km/h 4,3 s
0 - 120 km/h 5,9 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 7,5 s
0 - 160 km/h 9,9 s
0 - 180 km/h 11,9 s
0 - 200 km/h 14,4 s

I've heard people from the Lambo boards say the changes are significant in a speed contest..

So the 500hp Gallardo is faster than a 520hp Gallardo both with E-gear? Somethings not correct here surely.

I´m not saying that it´s faster, I just wanted you to see that the 520 hp Gallardo isn´t any faster than the 500 hp Gallardo, the difference isn´t big even if the 520 model was just a bit faster.

And take note to Steph´s post, the weight difference

And keep in mind that the M5 weighs aprox 1,900 kg
