AMG's new 6.2 liter V-8 (it will be called a 6.3 liter V-8 to pay homage to the 250 hp 1967-1972 300SEL 6.3) weighs 438 pounds vs. 485 pounds (old 5.4 liter supercharged V-8).

BMW's M5 Product Information Guide says that the M5's 5.0 liter 500 hp (SAE net) V-10 weighs 240 kg/529 lbs.

Weight of E63: 1840kg
Weight of M5: 1830kg

, that makes the E63 more superior to M5 in straight line and perhaps on the track. Seems to me that Mercedes are getting a bit jealous on the M5 & M6 dont you think???

AMG cars have always been as quick or quicker than the M cars in a straight line, but have never had chassis that could keep up. I see no reason to think the new E63 will be any different.

Have you seen the track time of the SL55 AMG with new 516hp engine?I forgot which track it was but it's found in one of the threads in m5board, it's quicker than the M5! That's why I'm saying that the E63 AMG can be superior to the M5, but of course all Mercs will feel heavy and unstable when actually driving it, so it lowers the confidence of a person driving it unless hez got "balls"...

Gearing

This car can be let down by its stupid (too tall) gearing (just as the new CLK63 AMG). We have to wait for the review, so far 0-100km/h in 4.5 sec looks pretty good.
