Yeah. I thought about it. Good point. Not sure my grand-pa would enjoy i-drive though.

I think we all have big respect for AMG's, and we probably turn our heads to follow a E55 when one passes by and we all like it's sound, but most of us prolly chose the M5 mostly for 2 reasons : SMG gearbox and better handling.

It's adding confusion to the marketplace in that Joe Carbuyer doesn't understand how the F1-SMG-DSG breed of gearbox is different from a "shiftable" slushbox.
I currently own a E500 with the slushbox and I must say that the MB box is something else, doesn't feel like any other autobox I've driven.

Ofcourse it doesn't give you the immidiate response of a clutch but lockups from 1st gear up do make for a much efficient power transfer and like you said "when you're in gear you're in gear" no slip at all.

Lots of lowend torque makeup for the slow feathered response of the torque converter. They say the new 7-tronic gearbox is something completely different all together.

In any case don't bash it before you've tried it out, I think you'd be pleasently surprised.
