I really love the new A8. The S8 is no different... This car is beautiful!I hope i dont get flamed for saying this on a BMW board But this looks much much better then the 7er.

Re: Audi releases their 2006 Audi S8 with a V10 FSI engine.

I think it looks quite good although I think 450 hp will be like bringing a knife to a gunfight by the time it comes out. It'll have about 400 lb/ft of torque. Peak HP is at 7k. 4268 lbs.

Despite the "low" HP, and considering that it is part of the A8 line and that MB has the S55 and S65, this seems to make it more certain that BMW will have to have something just to keep up with the Jones so to speak.

Competition has given people like us a lot of HP in recent years...perhaps an M7 is up BMWs sleeve afterall.

It definitely does look good. They've managed to make Audi's new grille not seem quite so unsightly. Its unquestionably handsome.

Its funny though...the new 7 looks fine to me, but just about the time they released it, the 2002-2005 7 was just starting to grow on me a bit.

No argument here. The A8 has been the best looking large sedan design since its introduction. I do wonder when the next model cycle will arrive. The S8 is short of super sedan status. 450 hp is a lot, but no longer qualifies for top of the heap, especially given its weight. I wonder if there are any plans for an RS8. The design, though, is terrific.

It's nice for sure.. Great for someone looking for that slightly more comfortable car than a M5 or E55, meaning bigger, slightly more luxurious, and a little less high strung, but still quite capable nonetheless. A few mods should see 500-550 HPish.. I like!

it is only 120kilo more than an M5 and it is quattro, looks like the all aluminum body play a role here

Don't you just love BMW being the benchmark? Looks like everyone is going V10 now

Aluminum must be playing huge part. For a car that size with AWD, all the electronic stuff, and a V10 (although a lightweight one), 4268 isn't bad at all.

The only problem is that 450 hp is yesterday's news. It seems that a new model of distinction such as this should at least stay on par with the motors already available upon its release and it certainly isn't doing that.

It'll be a nice car for sure but I think it may've been a misstep to miss the 500 hp mark...at least for marketing and keeping up appearances.

Deep down, while quite loyal to BMW, I'm kind of happy when the competition ups the ante. It'll help us in the end. These guys blaze more trails when the competition is on their ***.

Re: Audi releases their 2006 Audi S8 with a V10 FSI engine.

their W12 is already at 450hp so yes, it is not so exciting.

other "S" upgrades are quite predictable... the S vertical grille seems to be really overkill. reminds me of the Silence of the Lamb.

the only thing even borderline exciting is the Bang & Olufsen system. not that B&O sounds good, but it's nice to see something new. the S8 is boring.

i own a few audi's before and love them. but really, they could have made the S8 a little more exciting.
