brake by wire in the new S and E has been very poorly received here in the usa. reviews say it feels unnatural and dealers report having brake system "failures"! Its a great idea and they will make it work- but its one thing when your idrive system doesnt work- yet another when its your brakes.........

ALL Mercedes Brake by wire systems have a backup hydraulic system in case the electronically controlled brakes fail as well as total power loss. Its one of the first things I thought about and I just found the answer out last week myself.

NEVER heard of a brake failure yet with the new Brake by Wire tech from the company obsessed with brake fade and brake safety.

I do agree that the new pedal feels mushy having driven a new SL, it takes some getting used to but I prefer it to brakes that propel you forward with the slightest touch of your foot.
