Question: What's the worst sales tactics you've been through for new car sales?

Here's my story:

I had a small itch for something new and popped over to a nameless dealership the first saturday in March. I agreed to terms on trade-in value and on the price I tended to pay on car I was interested in (although one wasn't available until the end of the month). So I signed the agreement to have the dealership pay off my car and received a loaner until my car arrived. The car broker came and picked up my car immediately.

Then today happened... I get a call saying my car arrived and was ready for delivery. I go over to pick it up and realize it didn't have all the options I had anticipated. I then look at the buyer's agreement (which I never signed) and calculate that there is a $2k premium being charged for the car. I suspected this earlier and mentioned to my sales agent that I only intended to pay MSRP and not a PENNY more, and that if they couldnt accept that to give me my car back. My sales rep assured me a week prior (after speaking with the manager) that the numbers would add up and I was only paying MSRP. What a crock of sheeetz. So they start giving me all this crap about only 6 of the car currently in the state and that the car would easily sell for a premium. I didn't disagree, but I told them when I traded in my car exactly what I wanted and what I was going to pay for it. They tried to hardball me and squeeze me into a tough situation since they had NOT paid off my car until I took delivery of the new vehicle. BMW caught wind, was wondering why no payoff or payments were made and I told them over the last 3 weeks why. They call the dealership and threaten to repo it if no payoff is made. The dealership tries to use this against me since the payments are now behind (even though I only owed 19k more on the car) and force me to pay a premium. I told em to bring my car back and not to ever expect my business again. The manager told me my car would be back by the evening.

So I go have lunch fully expecting their games to continue and sure enough, I get a call 30 minutes later from the manager. Too little too late, I had already settled the payment issue with BMW and was more than happy to keep my car. The manager then offers me MSRP + the dealer installed options at cost and I refuse. He becomes pissy, talks about how they gave me a loaner for a month (which I ran up 3k miles on btw hehehehe) and this and that trying to give me a guilt trip but my mind is made up, the M5 is here to stay! He then tells me the M5 would be back in 15 minutes and hangs up. I go to the dealership, my car isn't there, so I wait around. Meanwhile the sales rep is pissed cause he just lost his commission and the owner apparently overhead the dispute and offers to sell me the car at any cost. The sales rep says he'd give me 500 under msrp (the car is not selling for under MSRP anywhere in america that I know of) and add in an extended warranty at cost and cut my finance rate as well. I refused. I continued to tell them that I'm not here to play games and I didn't appreciate them trying to disrespect me or take advantage of the situation they put me into and I'm not going to do business with them now or ever again. So I then wait around for 1.5 hours for my car to arrive, meanwhile I'm tossing my M5POWR plate around just excited to have my car back. It finally arrives, the broker gets out immediately and tells me he'll pay an extra 1500. I look at the mileage and it only has 200 miles over what I traded it in at so I'm not upset about that. After I tell him that I realized how much I missed my baby and I intended to keep it, he then told me that if I was interested in selling it or changed my mind, to call him directly. He'd do whatever it takes to get the car back. I tell him thanks, I'll consider it, but it's not likely. I reattach my plate and drive off.

I lost my car for 4 weeks and traded in 200 miles on my car for 3150 miles on theirs. Not a bad payback. They never looked at how many miles I put on their car in the past 4 weeks until after I had left with my car safely in my hands

Pop quiz, what car was I trading it in for? After you guess, then I'll name the dealership so all fellow ATLiens can avoid them!

i had a really bad experience with a nissan dealership and a few of my friends have as well across the country.

the reason i guess is thats the only car i can think of that isnt going for below MSRP

unless its some super exotic, Lambo, or aston etc.

also very glad you got your car back and are happy.!

Not a 350Z, there are definitely more than 6 of those in Atlanta let alone the state of Georgia!

It is a 6-speed and its limited production (not sure just how limited though). When you hear, you'll laugh! It's definitely not what one would expect, but I was under pressure from my significant other that I need to save up for a house. The 1826 car payment is almost 40% of my after tax income a month.

Also, a 6-spd manual rules out any mercedes

I'd guess a WRX Sti or the new EVO?

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences but I'm glad to see that you got your baby back.

AFAIK, the Sti has not hit the dealers yet in the states and unfortunately the US spec EVO is only equipped with a 5-speed manual.
