Interesting info, Fred. I assume Maserati is using the same engine unit found in their Coupe. Can never imagine the day when there is a Ferrari powered SUV! Most likely if they produce this car most of the units will be targetted for the US. A Texas plate on the prototype goes to support that too!

Kubang is quite an interesting name as well. Wonder if it's named after the location in Malaysia?

I really like the looks of the car... argh SUV . But I highly doubt that Ferrari would ever sign off on a deal to build a SUV. The sales would be small IMHO. It would also ruin the image of the company. Can you imagine all the issues when you go off roading in that. F 355s can't even run properly for more then 2 months and the worst off road use they see if the heated concrete driveway .

it looks so much nicer than the cayenne!!
i can live with the cayenne's front but the back of it looks like a vw passat stationwagon...
maserati might've found a winner in this suv

It certainly looks better than the cayenne but I don't think Maserati will put it into production. It could be just a 'tester' for the styling of the upcoming Quattroporte sports saloon.

I don't get this SUV business. First Porsche, who hasn't made a good looking car since 1997, now Maserati, who has done nothing in the past 20 years of any consequence. Remember the Lamborghini truck, that promptly bankrupted the company.

The name Kubang was taken from the name of the wind blowing on the island of Java (Indonesia if I am not wrong?) . It has been a tradition for Maserati to call their cars with wind names (as Lambo was calling their ones with bull breeds names). Also in the Pagani Zonda, Zonda stands for an Argentinian wind.

The SUV from Maserati looks nice, maybe one day we`ll have some SUV world racing cups....Touaregs, Cayennes, Kubangs and so on. I still don`t get it

Best regards
Alex

Most SUV's are pointless, never taken off road. They are primarily bought instead of minivans because our wives prefer better image and high seating position that gives'em a sense of higher safety.
I would rather see a large ,well made sedan with 4wd from Maserati, but with more serious power then the one coming next year(new Quattroporte)
I'm afraid 390 hp won't be enough to really compete in the future luxury sedan market.
