Project Honda S2200 Coupe
Pic and text taken from www.autoexpress.co.uk
New S2200 On Tin-top Form
It's fast, stylish and hi-tech - and also the car Honda said it would never design. Auto Express can exclusively reveal the firm is working flat-out on this stunning coupé, which has already hit the test track in Japan.
Sources have revealed the newcomer - known internally as the S2200 - is to be based on the S2000 roadster, but will be a fixed-head coupé. Previously, bosses had said there would never be a tin-top version of the convertible. Inspired by the innovative S800 coupé - which was built as a sister car to the classic S800 roadster - the S2200 is likely to cost around £27,000. A strict two-seater, it's set to debut as a concept at the Tokyo Motor Show late next year.
Powered by a high-revving, four-cylinder 250bhp 2.2-litre engine, the car will rival the likes of Mazda's RX-8 and the new Nissan 350Z. Speed and driveability are top of the list of priorities for Honda's top brass. And as a result, torque output will be impressive, with early indications suggesting the coupé will offer at least 235Nm.
Our insiders say adding a hard-top and glass rear window will mean the car tips the scales at about 1,320kg. However, we've been informed a sub-1,300kg figure is the goal. Despite the extra weight the metal roof will add, en- gineers still insist the car will be faster than the current S2000.
Early estimates suggest the S2200 will sprint from 0-60mph in around six seconds, and hit a top speed of more than 150mph.
Inside, the car will maintain the no-frills feel of the S2000, and include a digital dash and a starter button. Also on offer will be bucket seats, air-con and electric windows.

For years Now I've noticed that Japanese cars are crap at hiding the back box from the exhaust properly under the car...... this is pretty obvious in this picture

looks better than this:
I acually like how the S2000 looks, and this hardtop isn't too shabby. I would buy it over the Z4 any day. I hate the Z4's styling. My pet peeve about Bangles designing is the "forrowed Brow" look on the headlights, its SO UGLY!!
Stupid Bangle!!

I'd take this over the Z4 anyday. (excluding the M version, if it ever comes out.).
I wonder if the rotary engine from the RX-8 will fit in here?

I have some soy for that rice
I think I would be the number one hater of honda on this board..or at least close to the top. I have never met a civic that i liked (even my best friend's). They are great people movers but thye are just so plain that I cant stand it. There is a slight amount of envy in there too because parts are so cheap for them.
Back to the S2200, (im sure we can figure out what that S stands for) I really dont mind the looks of it because i think that s2000's are quite good looking in a way. The front facia is just too **** borring though for a sports car and I could trounce the average s19.99 driver with my 1997 chevy malibu ls. You have to abuse an S2000 to get it to move, no torque.
I guess thats just the tip of my honda loathing and ill let it out in spurts as people post other things on hondas. I certainly do understand that the NSX was/is a great sports car but 80,000 for a v6...are you dumb? Thats $13,333 per cylinder or $275 per hp. Lets look at the M5...$9125/cyl or $182.50 per hp. Much better deal. I know that the S2?00 is a great deal and alot of people have them but not me..no thanks

@ Triflow OK..maybe you don't like the look (Personally I think this S2200 looks not good at all compared to the S2000)
BUT...did you ever drive an S2000?!
If no...please do so and talk t me afterwards...of course it doesn't kick lick the huge NM from and M5 but just tell me if it was fun or not.
Whats more...if you wanna play numbers...
S2200 = 108 USD per HP and
5400 USD per cylinder
any questions?!
BTW @ATHA: 235 NM is a lot if it comes from an 2.2 5 cylinder!

Have driven a S2000
I drove a 2001 S2000 after getting my M5 and I just wanted to see what all the hype was about. I was impressed by the handling and no doubt the engine (240 from 2.0L) but it just doesnt have enough torque for me. Same reason why i wont by one of the new M3's. I drove a Mroadster at M5DE and didnt like it one bit, it just didnt jump off the line. It would be a fun little toy to play with and thats why its very high on everyones list. MT, car and driver, road and track...etc. Great value, better looks than Z3 and boxter but I would rather not just 9K rpm to move somewhere.
Just personal preference...Love the trans/shifter action! Some one needs to steal that and put it in a BMW.

YEP thanks for that sincere evaluation...but you're right it's all up to personal preference.
I would like it too to have more torque but you cannot have everything.
For me the M5 is on of the grestest cars on earth and the best in it's category but I simply can't do anything with a 4 door huge saloon car.
Maybe but the M5 engine into the S2000 Yeeehaah
But then it would lose some of it's handling capabilities.
Therefor I'll be happy to have this new 5 cylinder 235 NM i the S2000.
BTW.: Nothing equals the sound of a V8
