Why engine of Supra so strong!

From the internet, there are many samples that 1000hp/800whp for 2.xL supra engine, why this engine so strong?

I know the hp come from the turbo with high pressure, but the engine strong enough for so high pressure.

What's the reason?
1. thick wall of cylinder?
2. better material of engine block?

Because even the iron block engine of bmw(for example, the M50), also can't charged too much pressure!

And for V8 M5, it is 5L engine, but even sleeved, it seem still not as strong as the supra! not see 1000hp M5, but with 2.xL supra, 1000hp seem not very difficult!

Most BMW engines were never designed to handle forced induction (until recently of course). Go on to a E36 M3 forum and look at the numbers some of the S52 guys make with turbos. Still not a Supra, but I have seen some very impressive cars. If i remember correctly there were some 700+hp cars out there.

You are comparing BMW engines, as a whole, to an engine that is world renowned to be a factory freak on boost. Engineers obviously waaaaaay over beefed the Supra motor from inception. I am sure it was never intended to handle 1000hp, but thats how the cards landed. Why do you think Supra's are so rare and command such a high price?

If you are buying a BMW for ease of modification with a high HP/$$ ratio, you need to seek life elsewhere. I know it is blunt, but it is the truth.

HPF now offers a 'Stage IV' build of the S54 engine in the 1200 hp range..

We'll never see this with the thin-walled aluminum S62, but that cast iron S54 block can really take a pounding!

Good God! That's crazy!

I really like the Stage 2.5 and Stage 3 kits for the E46 from HPF, especially with the body kit! My kind of aesthetics! I really think that's next after the Beast is done. Faster and cheaper than supercharging a Z8!

Agreed. The E46 looks every bit as well sculpted at the e39 to my eyes. The HPF M3's are a force to be dealt with. The upper stage engine builds have had some problems with smoking and oil consumption however. I think HPF got their arms around this problem, and offered to re-build their customer's engines with different machining, torque plates, smaller ring gaps etc. HPF has been impressive from a 'get it right' standpoint.

This is what we all get for buying a car with an eighth the aftermarket following as the M3.

Oh well, I still love my car. I loved my E36 M3 but they (E36/46) are a dime a dozen in some areas.

The Swedes are turboing the S38B36 engine to way over 1,000 hp and take them to the drag strip all the time, weather permitting. They make 1,000 hp BMW's as easy as they make good meatballs.

Amen.

I've seen 3 other m5s since i have bought mine, and 1 was at the dealer when i bought it.

An interesting fact, i did see a ///M540i at a local bmw/audi/porsche/mercedes dealer and a ///M318 on the road. the 2 nicest/most rare BMWs available.

The inline-6 engine configuration is inherently strong by design.
