Depends on which merc you compare it to. Maybach is better, I would say. No?

The CL 6*** (63, 65, 600) are the direct competitors to the CGT.

I think the Bentley is the more luxurious and the finishing touches are much nicer by a landslide. Even the Maybach has plastic in the cockpit. You won't find that in the Bentley.

But the Bentley isn't going to take a CL from a driving experience. I also think Mercedes has a better track record maintenance/service wise and certainly more accessible.

I'm a Mercedes guy and they're still more low-key than the Bentley. I picked it because the luxury is there, the power is there, and it is less-ostentatious (though it gets stared at by everyone). And in NY, EVERYONE has a Bentley - I rarely see CLs, believe it or not - and never see the CL 65 (which is a complete ******* waste). I've personally never had any interest in the Bentley (though the drop top is certainly very nice and has no direct competitor in its range).

I've never thought that or experienced it at all - I've spent my fair share of time living and traveling there...

I'm a big fan of the GT. I've never driven one, but I've been a passenger in a GTC and the fit and finish is amazing. Plus the ride is so smooth its scary. I do not think I'd buy one if I had the cash, as I'm 18 years old and its a little mellow for me, but I definitely have huge appreciation for this car.

I would buy one of these over a CL, for the record. Except maybe not over a CL 65. However, if I wanted a nice luxury coupe in this general price range, I'd probably go for the Maserati Granturismo S with the MC Corsa transmission

Personally, I'd take the M6 every day. However, I think the average buyer of the Bentley has completely different desires for a car than the M6 buyer.
