Nice 'bird! Sounds like a fun project for sure. Something to think about, I have always thought it would be cool to have a newer motor in a car like this, something like an LS1 or LS2. There are kits out there to do the swap.
BTW, I have a '67 Firebird convertible that my dad and I fixed up a few years ago. It has a bored and stoked Pontiac 400 block now displacing 467 ci. We did coil overs all around, 4 link in the rear, new front control arms, rack and pinion conversion, disk brakes (from drums), Tremec 5 speed, sub frame connectors. Dropped it a little bit and added Torque Thrust originals and to me the look is perfect. Here's some pics:

A little update. Over the past few days I've worked on the car a little bit. So far I've yanked out the windshield -- going to have it replaced within the next week or so. And I've started fixing the broken "teeth" on the hood. 5 down, 2 more to go. Found some motors I'm looking at (about 480+hp and 500+tq) and I've decided to go with 3.73 gears. Probably going to do a 2500 stall converter. Just like anything, when I do my research, I keep finding more and more stuff I "have to have" for this car. Oh well, it is what it is and y'all know how it goes...
