Porsche buys a GT-R and runs it around the ring

Very interesting:

Interesting article, but far from a smoking gun...
There has been enough independent testing to confirm the legitimacy of the GT-R. Take a look at the recent Road & Track, where they tested numerous cars on 4 different tracks.
The reason for independent analysis is due to intrinsic biases, whether intentional or not.
Also reproducibility of any study adds to the validity. I think there has been enough 3rd party testers, and in general, the reviews have been exceptional.
If anything, this just makes the company Porsche seem petty and silly. Now who has egg on their face?

This is hilarious. If Nissan bought a 911 997 turbo, do you think that the porsche would do better than 8 minutes in the Ring?

A smart guy would not believe either Nissan or Porsche... They would judge by reading dozens of different comparisons..... And they all agree on one thing. GTR beats 911 TURBO on any given track....

Road and Track, Car magazine, Autocar, Top Gear, Fifth Gear... and the list goes on! GT-R is faster on any given track.... That is the truth. Are they all paid by nissan to lie? This is rediculous!

You should all be more concerned about Viper ACR Ring time! it is faster than everything else! If we believe in the video, That Viper is faster than ZR1, Enzo Ferrari, Pagani Zonda and everyone else! That is harder to believe!

Also, we have to wait for the GT-R v-spec to run at low 7.20s and compare to every other super car....

Summary for everyone:

Porsche can't keep up with BMW M3 GTR in ALMS. BMW must be cheating, ban BMW!

Porsche can't keep up with BMW and Mazda in Rolex Series. BMW and Mazda must be cheating, add weight to their cars!

Porsche is slower than Nissan GT-R at the ring. Get a GT-R, and time it while driven by one of your company's chassis development engineers instead of the former world rally champion and multiple race winner, Walter Rohrl, who you use to do all of your own times.

That about sum it up?

So you guys think a stock GT-R from the factory can put down the numbers that Nissan published?

Nissan's press release claimed 7:29 correct? Porsche did it in the 997 Turbo in 7:38. That's a 9 second delta, in other words, less than a 2 percent difference in time.

If we take a look at other tests, we see that the GT-R seems to be faster than the 997 Turbo by that number or more. Here's a short compilation done by someone else:

RoadandTrack.com -- Comparison Tests - Comparison Test: Nissan GT-R vs. Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs. Porsche 911 Turbo (5/2008)

Nissan GT-R vs Porsche 911 Turbo - Fifth Gear Video | CarZi

GT-R vs Porsche at Thunderhill Park Raceway

YouTube - Nissan GT-R | Porsche 911 GT3 | BMW M3 [Autocar] - Part 1

YouTube - GT-R R35 VS 997 TURBO AT TSUKUBA (4)

Nissan GTR on Top gear test track

I think what this shows is the GT-R seems pretty consistantly faster than the 997TT across many different drivers, many different tracks. Is it possible it's just shy of 2% faster on a track like the 'Ring? I'd say it's at least plausible.

An obviously biased claim by the manufacturer them selves. Only a fan boy would believe such news.

why are people surprised that a Nissan beats a porsche? No one seems to be amazed that a Dodge Viper ACR, slightly modified, is faster than Enzo Ferrari in Nurburgring! Even Corvette ZR1 seems to be as fast as the Enzo Ferrari....... almost!
