IE; if you are in Nav and you want entertainment, just slide and hold down for 3 seconds.
If you want FM, you know there is a FM button on the radio?
I am sorry, but I still can not justify the extra buttons, I don't get it.

I'll be that I've had more miles of experience with this system than anyone in the country (over 76,000 of them), and yes I know all the 'shortcuts' (my car is a 2006, I don't have an FM button). Slide and hold will get you back to whatever entertainment screen you were in, not necessarily the one you want, you still have to navigate from there.
You can't possibly say that the Idrive method of transferring from Nav to FM - slide and hold.........3 seconds.......then push up...click... then rotate one...two...three...then click... all while having to keep your eyes focused on the screen, is simpler than just pushing the FM button???
BMW isn't stupid, they've realized that their system is overly complex, and that is why they've added simple single function buttons to the dash.
