1993 RX7 Z06

I thought i would ask E60 owners for advise. So my friend wants me to buy his project car.Its a 1993 RX 7 with a Z06 motor. He just finished building it two months ago,This thing is a beast. It weighs 2800 pounds and puts out 490 WHP.It was a ground up project for him.I either have to sale my 2001 Dinan M5 or Get a loan to buy the RX7.He wants $50,000 For the car,and in a few months its coming out in Modified Magazine. What do you guys think ?.

sounds very interesting.
i always thought the rx-7 was good looking car, of course very under-powered with its tiny rotarian it had pitiful amount of torque.
i think the z06 really solves the torque problem.
i'm curious how balanced is the car now? is the v8 too much weight on the front end?
did you have a chance to drive it yet?

I did drive it its 50/50 weight its been cornered balanced and weights I belive 500 pounds less then a 08 Z06.This thing is just crazy to drive,It left my car standing still from third gear on a race. Its just hard for me to go from an M5 to Mazda.

there's quite a cottage industry that has developed to serve the domestic engined FD RX7 contingent. Everything from motor mounts to suspension. in most cases the swaps involve less "exotic" hardware than a Zo6 engine with a LS1 usually getting the call. I've heard the balance as far as the V8 goes isn't too bad, something about it being only a little heavier than the original Wankel engine..I've also heard these cars can be a handful, why exactly has never been articulated to me clearly....but you don't have to take my word for it.

weird

Is there really a consideration to buy a 1993 Japanese car for 50k? I dont car if it has a F430 engine in it (ok maybe i do), its still buying a car that is 14 years old with little resale value.

Sell your older M5, and buy a new M5. Then you can stay on this message board and have a BMW that will give you years of enjoyment. Besides, the Valet people will let you park it up front, and not driven to the back.

I think you'd regret shelling out $50k after a few fun drives.

For a few $K more you could get an E60/M5.

That is no replacement for your M5.

However,

I've always liked that RX-7 since they were released. Many of them get ruined with body kits etc, that is a nice clean looking car.

But I certainly wouldn't sell my M5 to buy it...

I would at least make him throw in that sweet Chevy Nova next to it in the third picture...

firstly, there's no way i'd replace a DD type car like the M5 for a 2 seat project car. secondly, if i were to add a fun project car to the garage, i think $50k could be better spent, but to each his/her own.

cool project but, totally different than the M5 in character, use, acceptance, and so many other things it's not even a close let alone fair comparison ... and if I wanted a $50k project catr it would be something much more exotic like a Factory Five GTM
