"Chevy engineers said that the new LS9 was created to "match up favorably" with the V10 found in the M5 and M6. The supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 has 620HP and 595 lb-ft of torque, with 535 lb-ft available from 2,600 RPM and a 6,200-RPM redline. The high-revving, naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V10 has 507 HP and 385 lb-ft of torque, and goes all the way up to 8,250-RPM."
That's funny...

They can do what they like but it will be missing one thing -

"M"

The DNA that will make it a great car.

I also find it interesting how different manufacturers approach building a super sedan - the m5 is a legend, plain and simple - I've owned AMG's before, but there is a reason why the M5 is so well respected by car enthusiasts.

But its very simple for me - which car would I rather be in? M5 - any day, all day.

I like it

The car looks great. The interior is awesome, not cluttered like some people say. The navigation sreen is a pop up, so it not in veiw when not needed. But the big story here is 550hp..this thing will hail ***..

I think it's great when different manufacturers bring us their interpretation of a fun car to drive. Thank goodness people are still competing for our purchase money. So you like one car better than another. Great! But that doesn't mean you need to bash other products by saying things like Cadillack. Grow up; this isn't religion. Why not appreciate the options the market is giving us. The more we have to choose from the better for us. Thankfully we don't all drive M5's; how boring would that be. Plus, if that were all we had to choose from, man would they be even that much more expensive.

While it looks nice and the numbers sound good I can't forget that GM will be backing it and possibly fighting warranty work.
I had an 04 CTSV and I also had a million issues with the rear end. I went thru 4 rear ends. BUT NOT ONCE did they deny my warranty. What frustrated me was their loaners and having to drive them all the time. In the year and a half that I had the car, it most of spend 3 months in the dealership. Peeling radio buttons, fogging headlights, etc..

That's why I got the M5, sure it's double the price, but you get what you pay for.

Having said that, I hope that they fixed their issues this time. I will look into the new ctsv. I'm on the list. 550hp is very tempting and I like the new look, like some have mentioned it should be easy to put that bad boy in the 600+ territory. We'll see, my car's lease is up on june and I was thinking of getting another M5, but I like to change every once in a while, so we'll see.

echoing other posters sentiments: it appears to be a huge improvement over GM's previous attempts at a world class super-sports sedan but comparing their best efforts to the best efforts from BMW or MB AMG or Audi RS is a bit premature until they start having these comparo's. But at first glance, taking the entire package into consideration, I'd still personally prefer the M5.

go bmw!

It's sort of strange. I really, really, really want to like the new Nissan GTR and CTSv....but I just can't for some reason. Nothing against them but they just don't turn my crank.

Cheers ///

Styling aside, look at that powerplant...

If we believe what we read, 43% more torque than the S85.

In LS9 trim, almost 600 ft-lbs torque vs. the S85's 385. Even down at 2600 rpm, 535 ft-lbs!

Man.

GM engineers are showing the Germans a thing or two about building engines.

I'd almost be willing to set my esthetic objections aside to get to all that power potential!

Dave
