The definitive review will be on TV here in the next few weeks..top gear have it on in the next few weeks.BUt Clarkson already adores it and the Stig want to buy one..so I reckon it is a forgone conclusion as to what they will say.
(hint ..Clarkson in the Times said the only reason he gives it 5 stars out of 5 is because he cant give it 6)
I have not run the car in yet so any write up I do would be premature.
Yes, bottom line is most of us HAVE NOT driven this R8 yet.
When I looked for my e39 M5 replacement, I wanted the best performing car I could find for the money. I looked at every single car I was aware of, regardless of manufacturer. And that led me to the Ford GT. I am glad that I was able to not let my judgment be completely controlled by prior expectations of the brand.
I suggest the same here. You could hate Audi cars in general and still appreciate or respect the R8. The only complaint I have so far is the engine bay, it looks like a toy - but it was pointed out that the engine bay may have changed from the photo I took - and it was early in the game, so perhaps that was a developmental car I saw at the Cars and Coffee that day.
Anyway, I just want to say, keep an open mind and you may be surprised...
I still and most likely always will like BMW's, but it doesn't mean they are the only company capable of making world class vehicles...I've not yet owned an Audi, so I am certainly not trying to defend them. Just trying to remain open to them.
I'm excited that Audi chose to develop a car of this apparent caliber.

For me, I don't like the way Audi cars perform near the limit, but for daily or spirited driving, they are quite good. I liked the new Audi TT that I test drove extensively (for my girlfriend).
No offense in any way to the thread creator, but it really is slightly silly to ask people's opinions on a new car purchase; on a forum, or in any other way. Who cares what other people think? It isn't going to be their car, it is going to be yours!
+1

I think an M3 would be a nice daily alternative to the R8 too but really- I think the R8 is a special statement from Audi and I think if you like it, get it.
