There cannot be an R8 with more than 1000miles on the clock they are so new,any race at the moment is irrelevant. An m5 will pull form one but only above 100mph ,I don't find the performance weak and I have changed from a 997 turbo. Also any bends in the road and the R8 will destroy pretty much anything.

I testdrove one last Saturday.

Was not able to go on the Autobahn but from my first impressions, the M5 is a lot more fun to drive.

Shifting in the R8 is lame but might eed some practice.

The plastic in the console next to the handbrake is horrible (understatement) and in the door sounds very, very cheap.

The leather and stitching is very nice.

The looks attracts a lot of attention, a bit too much for my taste.

Loved the coupe feeling.

Engine sound from inside the car at say up to 4000 rpm is like a sewing machine. I didn't like it. At higher revs pushing the car it sure gets a nice sound. But is subjective.

If it was, with all the extra's, 40% cheaper I would have considerded it. It costs with extras 180k Euros over here. The M5 with extra's 150k Euros.

However my soon to be 9 year old son likes the R8 very much.

Ohh forgot to add. The brakes of the R8 do feel really good.

Amazing...whilst all this sort of thing is subjective ,I would say the following..the Audi build quality is superior to all the recent cars I have owned..(997s,996tt,997tt,M6,AMG sl55),the engine also sounds much better than any of them..and the brakes whilst very powerful are actually too sharp..the interior is far superior to any BMW or Porsche. The only thing I agree with you on is the attention you get..it is staggering..but nice attention..not like driving a ferrari where people curse you.
And did you not get to go on any good roads ? The chassis and handling are what makes the R8 very special.

all this talk of this Audi R8 is making me want one

heres some pics of me at an AUDI BBQ sampling the Audi R8

my missus trying out another one

i think it suits her more than me LOL

No doubt its a good looking car, but i feel people are being very silly here in the UK paying upto £10k over list price to have one now. The V10 is out next year and 2nd hand prices will drop dramatically for the current V8 R8!!

Audi are spoiling it have different variations of this car, de values it slightly, bit like the new m3

there will be a sedan, coupe, estate and convertible versions, whereas the e46 there was just the coupe and convertible, which i think made it more special...

with lots of versions of the new m3 it dilutes the specialness of this new car, but who can blame BMW for rinsing the M/// mark as much as they can

Just found this SportAuto lap driven by HvS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VyRVKpcKgk

The lap time is 8:13. I think he could be a bit more aggressive for a lap record run. That combined with cup tires, I would expect it to be sub-8 min but probably not much.

The RS4 laps the ring in 7.58 so the R8 will be much faster. Also look at this...

'Anyone seen next month's EVO magazine? Amazing performance from the Audi R8. 0-100 in an unspectacular 10.4 seconds, BUT it laped the Bedford West Circuit in 1.22.1. To put this into perspective, the F430 did it in 1.24.2, the 997 GT3 in 1.23.4, the 06 Gallardo in 1.22.8 and the Enzo in 1.21.3. Exceptional time I thought (COPYRIGHT ZO7) '

Based on that and the fact that it has beaten the 997 turbo /gt3 and gallardo on every circuit it has been on you can reckon on a sub 7.50 on standard tyres.

what does the M5 and the E46 m3 do around the ring? do you access to these times? also id be interested what a 335i/335d does around there!!

the R8 is impressive, imagine how much more impressive it would have been with 2wd!!! would have been lighter therefore faster and better suited to a race track

4wd is for loose surfaces IMHO

M5 laps Nordschleife in 8:13 and E46 M3 in 8:22 i think it was..

The RS4 has lapped Nordschleife "official time" in 8:09, on standard tyres - same time as M6..

I live in manchester...Kingdom of rain..4wd is the only way to have a performance car round here.I used to get the m6 wheelspinning in 4th
I have to say although it is 4wd it handles like a rwd car if you want it to.
