Have a look here, the R8 took on 10 other prominent cars like Porsche GT3, Murcielago, 599GTB, and won in Jeremy Clarksson's test of which car who is the best for using on Isle of Man;

I drove my friend's R8 yesterday and this car rocks! It's chassis, suspension, brakes, and advanced awd system are state of the art. It cockpit is all bizness, and the seats are firm but comfortable too. Handling is outstanding! I own a awd Gallardo(one of the best handling cars ever built) and its hard to believe the R8 is awd. Imagine a car that has grip and control of awd but feels like a ferrari...

This car outclasses everything in its price range. A outdated p C2S has nothing on it, if but a tiny fraction of a second on straitline trajectory. On the twisties, and at the valet the R8 is the car to have! I like the way this car handles so much I will be checking out the possibility of upgrading my car with the improved R8 awd system.

an m5 will beat one, a UK based magazine, tested serveral cars.. 0-60 the R8 beat the M5 Touring.. (yes touring s heavier and slower than the saloon) but 0-100 the m5 touring beat the r8 and was pulling away dramatically after that

Carlos

p.s great looking car the r8

the R8 is not even a match to an M5 Nor the New M3, raced one a couple of weeks ago and trust me there was no match.. more than 4 car length!!

Ignore what everyone says complaining it is too slow,give me a road with any bends in it and this machine will beat pretty much everything.I have just gone from a 997tt into one and yes it is slower in a straight line but is that the only criteria to judge a car on ? If so buy a TVR or a bike.
In the UK and the USA the R8 has won so many 'best drivers' car tests it is fast becoming a legend.
Anyone who can get one I urge you to buy one.

Just because the R8 is AWD, it doesn't mean you should compare it to another AWD automatically. Price-wise, only considering the MSRP (and not dealer markups), the R8 is a competitor for the GT3. Both have two seats, both have 400+ hp. The GT3 doesn't need AWD. Technically, the R8 shouldn't either, but it is an Audi, hence AWD. But then again, you have several Porsches, and maybe want something different.

I've seen several R8's in real life, and they are quite interesting. Unlike many of my car enthusiast friends, I like the styling a lot, although part of my like for the styling is because it is different from anything on the road. However, as R8's become more and more common (keep in mind I live in Los Angeles part of the year, see Ferraris multiple times a day), I think the "new-age" styling will get old quickly.

Not just in LA - I see an R8 at least once or twice a week here in NY, but I've never liked the styling unless it is all black and that side panel is disguised.

I wouldn't get it just to get it - go drive it and if you love it, you get it. Hope this won't stop you getting a CCX
