My first ever brand new car, although I was very high up on the UK waiting list after putting a deposit down an F10 M5 way back in 2010, but in the end did not have the courage to go through with it.
Anyway this time around it was not a well thought out or planned purchase, more like woke up a couple of weeks ago and said I want a new car. I was actually trying to order an F10 M5 but then thought, hey what about the M6 Gran Coupe and here is the result :

You didn't even sit in one before you ordered it!?
At least I had before I ordered mine, for about 2 minutes at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2013. Compared to the M5 (E39 or F10) you'll find the seating position is very low.
You're welcome to come and sit in mine if you're free on a Monday evening when I'm down South.
But I read your review and you said it was good !! So I went with it. :angel
After ordering and putting a deposit down over the phone the dealer invited me in to let me sit in a 640d GC and also drive an F10 M5. The whole purchase process was a real hurry as I wanted one ASAP and also feel I have got a pretty goo deal too.
My only regret is I didn't get the Competition Pack as I feared it might be too low with it. I had huge pressure from my girlfriend as we bought a Mercedes E Class Coupe to use whilst my M5 is having an engine overhaul, and she keep going on an on about how low it is and getting in and out is a nightmare. After sitting in the 640d GC though she sort of loved it and I reckon I could have got away with the comp pack...
Tonight Monday ? Its going to be pretty tough to get down there today mate.
I hate to tell you, but the M6 GC Competition Pack is no lower than the standard M6 GC, it's only the M5 that's lower! However the M6 will be a little lower than the 640d and the seat bolsters are bigger, but hopefully you'll be OK! My 81 year old father in law had no trouble getting in and out (he managed the M1 too which was quite a surprise given that the top of the seat base is 9 inches off the ground), but my 78 year old aunt made a bit of a meal of it!
Lets keep in touch about the 23rd....but I reckon I'll be dead after the weekend (my birthday)....plus too much stuff still to organise for my trip away at the end of November.

Although I have heard of some cars have fallen off the ships...
Dealers and BMW themselves are saying it will be at the dealership on the 7th December, which is not ideal for me. I would like it on or before the 4th December, as flying out on the 5th and not back on the 23rd and much prefer if its at home than outdoors at the dealer....
Mine arrived at the dealers much more quickly than they were expecting after it arrived in the UK. They were expecting a good week or so, it arrived the next day! They said that it could be because they gave the higher value cars priority, the quicker they got rid of them the less likely they were to be damaged.

Also the expected date of arrival at dealer has been moving around from Week 49 (30th November to 6th December) to 8th December to 7th December and now to 4th of December and I fly out of UK on the 5th..... hopefully it sticks to the 4th or moves closer !
I think it will arrive at the dealer tomorrow or Monday, they need a couple of days to prep it, so you're probably looking at Wednesday or Thursday pickup.
Like I said, I'm happy to pick it up for you and keep it off the street until you get back. I'm flat out work-wise so I won't even have time to run it in on a quick Scotland trip
If it's the one in Isleworth (can't remember where in London you are) then I'm just around the corner and would be happy to stand you a coffee - our on-site catering is very good...
Come on, get those pictures up! @limeypride if you think M6 GC's are rare in the US you should try and find one in the UK! We have less than 400, in the USA there are about 2,500.
If you factor in the square mileage difference--the U.S. being about 40 times the square mileage of the U.K.--then you've got a wayyyyyy better chance of seeing one than me :0)
I'm stunned at how much I like that interior colour combo; I've always resisted the Silverstone interior liking Silverstone only on the exterior... but that looks lovely!
Now get yourself 10mm spacers all-around and she'll be ready for prom :angel
Congratulations!
I think you said you're off on vacation--bet that feels like torture about now :devil but I imagine you'll be getting up quite early for those days you're still at home and finding excuses to go to the shops and what not... been there myself (not to your shops or anything 'cause that'd be weird... you know what I mean).
Do you know the model designation of those wheels--I swear each time I see them on a UK car, they're subtly different to mine (343M 20")?
That looks like a really nice combo! Probably best get some sort of leather protection on there ASAP, I use the G Techniq stuff, easy to put on and invisible when dry.
So what are your initial impressions of driving it?
That is a lovely looking car. I second Richard's comments though - 4 months into ownership and I have a couple of marks on the leather despite being really careful and despite BMW having apparently protected it.
Two things - Renpur leather cleaner is extremely good and brings it all back nicely. And BMW's leather protection is crap.
Congratulations again. And I'm glad your collection experience was enjoyable. Coopers are clearly better at it than Stephen James...
My response is based on the BMWUSA.com web site where, interestingly, you can't *build* a car with them... and yet the default picture when you start the build apparently has them. Select Comp Pkg and the 343Ms come in and replace them. In short, there's no way to option them on with Comp Pkg so I assume the build site is out of date or that's not a supported pairing.
Having looked for months for my current M6, I know with a high degree of certainty that they weren't present on any of the cars I looked at. My guess is, at least here in the States, I didn't see them because my search was scoped to Competition Package cars only.
The one you posted that's at BMW Seattle (less than 40 miles from me) is also NOT Competition Package; the second M6GC they have there is also NOT Comp Pkg but it has 343M wheels.
My guess is we're in the middle of transitioning to those wheels for the 2016 MY cars...
The 433M have been available on US spec cars since launch, but you maybe right that in the USA selecting the competition pack prevents you specing them.
In the UK if select the CP you can select any of the available wheel styles, 433M, 343M, 343M Black or 601M.
I'd like to understand what you base that on since it contradicts what I've learned from almost a full year of research that ultimately led to the purchase of my now only 4-month old car, i.e. the research is fresh in my head. That research included both web site builds and searches over cars.com and others where the results included vehicles both with and without Comp Pkg (not likely true of web site builds, though, granted). At no point did I see these wheels (to the best of my knowledge, anyway) and I must've perused literally 100s of car during that time.
So I'm curious, can you show me what makes you so certain?
// edit: you already answered the first part of my question; I scrolled too quickly and missed the heading-text... corrected.
For the 433M+7MA vehicles, are you able to determine if they were individual builds (i.e. built in Germany and shipped here to very patient customers) or the more generic/common builds destined for dealers' lots?
I find it strange that the build site doesn't permit this combo at all... c'est la vie.
