My lease is up in two months and I decided to give up the modded Dinan M6 Cab for a new 2013 coupe. For me it is my daily driver and I need a car that is under warranty and easily serviced. I hear the reviews but every so often there is one that loves the coupe, praises the brakes, the steering and the overall feel compared with the M5 (which originally got rave reviews and now is getting panned). Anyways I still think it is a solid car, a BMW M which is well made, fast and reliable. I will give you my honest review when the car comes in next month.
BTW Sakhir Orange Metallic with Sakhir Full Merino, all options (ceramic brakes were ordered but cancelled by BMW).

Good stuff; I'm going to hold off for a bit and see it in person. BTW kudos on the color combo and options, it will look awesome.
Ive abandonded the idea of the new 6er and have a 335i Msport being built for Sept delivery. Ive always loved the 6er, and the e24 was the epitome of fun when I was growing up, but the e63 as much fun as its been in both 645ci and M6 offerings, is already too big as a 6er, and the new car is yet again bigger and heavier, so to me, the new car is a very very very nice, luxurous GT, but the sporting aspect is just not there anymore as far as im concerned. No matter how much power you throw under the hood, you just cant move that much weight around without compromise and if Im spending this much, I dont want to compromise. The car isnt a 4 seater so it does not need to be as big as they made it, I was hoping they would have downsized to reflect the 2 seater reality and take the car into a more sporty direction, but I suppose the upcoming f32 4 series will be the fit if they uptick the luxury options....There was a great article in the Roundel a couple of years back where they compared the e92 to the e24, and the size and power comparisons were so close, it really pointed to the fact that the 3er coupe was the reincarnation of the original concept of the 6er as the e63 was just so much bigger and heavier that it cant be compared to the e24. I know the new M6 will be great fun to those who get it so I only wish you all the best in that decision, but for me its just not what Im looking for anymore so while I dont have any M that I want at the current time, perhaps what the M4 Gran Coupe comes out in a few years, I'll be ready to move back to the marquee.
Sticking with mine. I went to the launch of the 6-er gran coupe a couple of months ago and sitting in the car I felt really as though there was nothing different to my M6. Not much has been added or changed to the interior of the car that gives me any added value or desire to change up. Having said that, of course, the only thing keeping me hooked to my M6 is its beating heart, the S85 V10. If the new car had a V10 or even a V10 TT then I would most likely reconsider. If I was looking for handling, braking, insane performance etc I would look no further than a P-car GT3 (track) or TT (DD + track).
1- most cars are becoming more bland and BMW is not immune
2- the competition is better than ever
The comments above fit into category 1. And I agree the last gen 6 was already too big and heavy and to my mind it was already a big GT with a maniac rev happy engine that didn't suit it at all- but thats just my take.
I have the convertible on order because thats what I like.
IMHO at least in regards to the convertible the M feels that much more "positive" than the series car. I can feel the benefits of no run flats, hydraulic steering vs electric in the series car, the more directly mounted rear sub frame etc. I just feels that much more sorted out to me. If that is worth it to you then its worth going for the M.
I totally agree with you. People are taking this way to far. My 2010 has been a reliable DD with 50k miles and still makes me smile. I could not say the same for our 911 turbo that wants me to garage it after 20 miles. I ordered a new coupe because I miss the sharper handling and I rarely put the top down anyways. If I miss the vert I will get a new boxster to fill that void. I am over 40 and not looking for a hard edged racer or a muscle car but rather a well sorted out GT that will carry 4 in a pinch.
Exactly. These are biggish GT cars and think about who can foot the price they are asking. They are not 1Ms. As being a GT I think the new 6 is better than the old. If you are talking about an engine to put in a smaller lighter car then the V10 is definitely my choice- though its not a small engine by any means. It stands as a testament to what M could do when given free reign. But times are different. Im glad BMW is still around. One misstep and they could have become a part of VW or MBZ or -gasp- Toyota. In a relative sense they are a smaller company.
