Is it just me... (Top Gear M6 Review)

Or does there seem to be inconsistency between the response to the new M5 and the new M6 for how similar these two cars seem to be?

Top Gear drives the new BMW M6 - BBC Top Gear

This is the second 'meh' review I've read regarding the M6 and simply don't understand after seeing how well the M5 has been received.

What are your thoughts?

I think there are a few meh M5 reviews out there (one that I can think of is the car and driver review). I believe it all comes down to what people have come to expect from M cars and what they now will get in the future with emissions / govt regulations playing a major factor + weight increases. Competition has also improved over the past few years.

I personally do not understand why BMW changed the "M" formula considering the small percentage of cars that are sold based on overall sales. However, I am going to buy a F12 M6 in the next 2 years regardless of changes to the M brand. I do plan on keeping the E60 M5 because of the V10 alone.

same thing happened with the e60 vs the e63...the e60 was renowned as a better drivers car.

Given that the E63 was able to beat a Lambo of the same year, it does fall short.

The M5 beats out all the competition including a Panamera Turbo S which is quite impressive.

agreed, certainly the e63 M6 was the perfect match of power and design that allowed it to beat many supercars. Now its grown yet again and weighs even more so its lost alot to the competition when you're considering its a 2door GT that is really a 2 seater. This is part of the reason I gave up on the F1x M6, its just not as impressive to me that I dont feel the need to have one.

^^ Same having seen the new releases and having driver an F10 M5 I'm leaning more toward a next Gen P-Turbo to be parked of course next to the M6 which I will hold on to for as long as possible just because of that gorgeous S85.

I think its because people are astounded at what BMW can do with a sedan. When they see a sports car/ 2 door shape/ all of a sudden they are comparing it to 911s and other sports cars.

I agree with you guys that times are changing. Such is life.
