Yep! I want to order as soon as they are available. Love my PSS's and can't imagine a improved tire but here apparently it is. Anyone know when they are available?
I had read, although I can't remember where, that PS4 were going to be less performance focused than PSS. No idea if it's true or not, and it seems to conflict with Barney's article and what Michelin are reported to have said about it. Still, I guess when Michelin released the PS3 they probably didn't advertise it as being vastly inferior to the PS2 in every way...
Just spoke to Michelin UK. They still claim that 265/35R20 have yet to go into production. The latest word is that they will be available second week of June.
I use Budget Tyres in Battersea, one of the Sheen Tyre Group companies. They are getting them in for me especially. They look like the dodgiest bunch of folks you've ever seen, but they're great! They always get me the best price, they always get the pressures right, and most importantly, their balance weights don't fall off on the track like everywhere else I've tried. (the heat of the braking melts the glue apparently, but not with these guys). 02072231720
They're on the car... Immediately they feel more sure footed than the PSS, but that could be in my head. I'll get back to you after the ring trip in 2 weeks' time...
So...what are they like?
First impression: they are so much more quite than my old PSS. Granted, old tyres are noisy as he**, and my old PSS was at the point where it could be argued whether they were legal. But it's not just the noise level - I get the impression the PS4 provides a smoother softer ride.
I immediately noticed that the PS4 creates a feeling of "oversteering" - probably the 'sure footed' feeling described by 100%Cocoa.
The grip is remarkable, but because I compare to an old set I dont really think that the comparison is valid.
Spoke to Tire Rack and they said front stock size is available but rear stock size won't be till next year. I just put a new set of PSS on my beast. Used PSS on my bikes for 12 yrs. for track days and never found a better tire, expecting same from these PSS also.
Are you on 19's or 20's? I understand it's the other way around. You can get the rears here, but not the fronts yet. Maybe it's different for the 19s..?
Either way, I had a proper play last Friday and they are definitely better than PSS. Familiar roads, familiar lumps and bumps, familiar places the DSC used to cut in etc. Coincidentally I was bedding in new brakes and the braking is noticeably more controlled too. Only 5 days to go til Ring testing :grin
