So i really hate how quite my F10 is. I have 14 Months left on my lease.
When you guys are doing after market Exhaust are you cutting off the Mufflers and bolting on new ones or replacing the entire system from where it unbolts so the car is not altered?
Has anyone cut off the mufflers on a lease and just put them back on when the car was returned and been ok? i don't see that going so well
Plenty of options for aftermarket exhausts. Just find one you like, get it fitted & keep the original parts so you can swap back when you return the car.
I never said buy a complete system & don't forget not everyone on this Forum is American so we use different terminology for exhausts & some aspects of tuning.
What's section 3? & why can't you just buy that as an aftermarket section & thus replace with stock when needed? In the UK we have cat back systems which are just that, aftermarket exhausts from the cat-back, then you've of course got downpipes & for certain systems you can get down to more section detail such as the possibility of replacing just certain sections. Perhaps this is an option in the US & i guess depends on the manufacturer.
If you 'cut' something off then how are you going to replace it come return time? Weld it back on in which case i would assume BMW won't be happy with that.
I'm guessing (and it is just a guess) that if you needed to cut the pipes after the cats then, come return time, you'd simply replace that whole section of pipe?
So on this diagram you'd be looking at replacing item 1 on each side...

Have you found an exhaust setup yet? I have just the axle back setup and it's plenty loud for me. as for the cutting of the exhaust on a lease i'm sure plenty have and then you can just have an indy muffler shop weld it back together for you once the lease is up for the return.
ill look around for a month or 2 before ordering a new one, i just spent 200k on a remodel on my house so I'm still in recovery mode sort of. AKA i need to spend a little less for a while
Nod, I can attest to that exhaust being throaty and loud--ask my neighbors. Loved it most of the time, would've occasionally enjoyed an 'off' switch. See a few videos I posted on YouTube if you haven't already...
Well, I've done exactly what you are asking. I had an eisenmann exhaust on both my E93 M3 and E63 M6. My M3 was leased and when it came time to return it I cut the eisenmann cat back off, and had the stock exhaust re installed aka welded back on.
Here's my thinking...when you return a car from lease. Sure they look at the condition and tires etc. but they do NOT look underneath and EVEN if they did..they likely wouldn't notice so long as the weld was nice and clean. Here in Canada, the car has a quick inspection through a third party company where they come to your home or office and check the car out in about 15-20 minutes.
Hope that helps and good luck!
Btw, I saw a company named Megan racing has exhausts for about $500 for the F10 M5. Going to do my own research on them now that I might be getting into an M5.
How loud do you really want the car. It's a beautiful m5 not some pony corsa you whack a cherry bomb on ???
