My brand new m5 post running in service UK

My 10 day old M5 has just had its running in service. 1200 miles in comfort mode in just over a week. Finally took it for a blast for first time this evening on sport plus settings and finally opened her up on the dual carriageway.....holy christ!!!!!!

Part exchanged for my beloved E60 M5 which had done 80000 and was starting to get a bit twitchy with faults and error messages, thank god for the warrenty I was paying monthly.

Went in to a Cooper BMW UK so called "VIP" event thinking I would be in the market for an approved used model now down to the £60000-65000 mark, clearly saw me coming as somehow I left a couple of hours later having signed on the dotted line for a brand new monte carlo blue model they had in the showroom, still not sure how I got talked into that but what the hell I suppose I can sell my kids for medical research

My own first thoughts on comparison are F10 does have slightly sluggish response moving off in comfort mode, ? is this turbo lag, and steering does seem somewhat sterile as if less connected to road but at the same time it seems ruthlessley efficient and much more stable going into corners on UK twisty country roads. Im sure fuel economy and range is all improved etc.. but bigger fuel tank pushes fill up north of £100 which is tough to see on the pump. Everything else is positive+++++, still getting used to all the updated idrive toys, I think its going to be much more of a licence buster than the E60 as you sort of knew when you were going fast in that, this one seems so much more deceptively fast without letting on that your pushing an immediate licence loosing speed. Are these typical thoughts on the F10 experience?

Thanks for looking at the pics, see my albums for my BMW evolution and any comments, will keep post updated with my thoughts as the next few weeks go by, cant wait for weekend.

Any UK M car owners in North Essex?

Getting insurance approval for tracker

Had a BMW trackstar tracker installed prior to picking car up. My complimentary BMW 7 day car insurance has now passed and im waiting for my own insurance company to confirm receipt of my tracker certificate.

Basically they have told me that until they see this certificate and confirm their approval of it in writing my car insurance cover doesnt include theft!!!! Dealer was very happy to point out that the tracker was a must as I wouldnt get insurance without it because this is the sort of car that gets stolen and hidden in a sea container bound for the other side of the world!

Wife doesnt understand why Im sleeping in garage at the moment.

Is this a common problem for others in UK and elsewhere?

Hi msdes123

Great looking car and snap with MCB!!

Mentioned this in my review once I took delivery last month but do you or anyone else find the electronic handbrake varies between auto and manual release? Unlike the other F10's it has the auto release function but sometimes when the car has been parked I get a warning on the dash to release it - other times you just pull away and it simply releases?

is that silverstone interior? the color is blinding!

congrats on your new buy.... I'm sure volunteering your kids for a few science experiments will help pay for it.

I loved the part about the deceptive license losing speed...I've always wanted to ask about that since the sound is dampened in the cabin more

It would have been getting on for £10K but they took me to the cleaners with all their after sales insurance products (tyre protection, retail price protection, chip repair etc...) after we had already agreed on the car price. Wasnt till I got home that I realised that had added almost 3 grand to the total, I didnt give all these products enough thought at the time as to what I was actually buying.

They told me that this was the second F10 M5 they had sold, the first being sold very soon after the model arrived last year with no discount, also notice the F10 M5 longtermer car diary in BMW car magazine had the owner picking the car up from the dealer for £82000 a few months back so presume he didnt get too much of a discount unless the options list was astronomical.
