I am getting a Pan GTS because of the naturally aspirated engine, prettier interior with the alcantara, stitching, and center console buttons. Also, I need more rear leg room. I may still change my mind and get a turbo though. That torque is addicting.
I have a 2010 Panamera 4S and love the car. The reason I am changing is that when I got my 4S - the only Pana faster was the Turbo. Now there are effectively three Panamera models faster than mine, Turbo S, Turbo and now the GTS. Again, love the car and it handles, performs and tracks very well. I had it on Laguna Seca twice and the car was simply incredible.
Now it's time to move back to the F10 M5 - which can compete with the Turbo S. Further, BMW racing heritage is passionate. I just returned from a 2 day M School at the Nurburgring driving M3's and it was the best trip ever! I should have done ED with my upcoming M5...
I must say I will be back to Porsche in a couple years as they truly build awesome cars. For those who are having a hard time choosing - go with your gut... both cars are worth considering

It's interesting, but I thought about that but ended up getting an M5 Individual. A few things I found:
1) The primary interior options on the GTS really don't look very good. You have to get a 10k upgraded interior to get something quality.
2) The combination of need for custom interior and lots of options on both cars inflates the Porsches price fast than the M5s (BMW is more reasonable in pricing for BMW Individual interiors and options)
3) Tech - I can't live without M HUD, Surround Cameras, and a generally much more advanced navigation system. The Panamera just seemed outdated when it came to tech. Reminded me of Jag in this respect.
4) Steering wheel is way too thin.

Agree that the prices can quickly add 20k++ to the car with basic options.
re #4 - I have the carbon fiber interior package with a half carbon/half leather heated wheel. It is the perfect size - almost the same thickness as an M wheel. But I had to spend $800 to get it!
Re the M5 - I wish they offered a carbon fiber trim package. That is really the only interior option that I would have like to see available (like the M6)
Yes, the seating position in the M5 will definitely appeal to some more than the Panny, which is quite low. Also the seats in the M5 are definitely softer and more on the luxury side vs the sportier seats in the Panamera. I do like the ability to adjust the lower seat bolsters in my sport seats - better than the upper seat adjustment in the M5. The Panny seats look incredible, and have better adjustments for me, and hold they hold me better than the F10 seats. However, I do miss the adjustable headrest and ventilation of the M5 seats.
I love the itch Wolverine.. frankly I can't get the M5 out of my head. I am trying so hard not to buy one that I am most likely simply going to just take the dive sometime soon and get it over with. I keep convincing myself I don't need a 4 door car for work because its just me to and from the office but something about a comfy 4 door sedan with more power then sense and tons of bells and whistles is appealing.
Porsche has fantastic product (as can be soon from my garage) but there is something very appealing about the M5 that just makes it a very hooligan car with huge appeal to all enthusiasts. I drove it in Spain and loved it - promising myself that one day I just go buy one, that time is coming soon. Does not hurt that it comes in 6spd. manual, my tranny of choice!
I am finally getting my test drive in the M5 in 2 weeks. I am going to give the M a chance as I loved my E39 and the f10 reminds me a little of it for some reason. I also would like 5 seats and the worst thing is in the Panny I am getting too much unwanted attention. The rwd probably is too much of a handicap in this climate after I have gotten used to awd now, but Ill see when I drive it. The f10 has been quite impressive. I will probably wait for the RS6 before making a desicion, if any. There is also a possibility Ill stick with the Panny for a while, as I really like it and its hard to get a proper deal or any deal if you are trading in a more expensive car, and it will probably be slow to sell privately.
Kip, very interested to hear your test drive results. I really, really, like my 4s but I don't quite love it. Got used to all of the attention, one time had 8 people looking at it outside of target. Another time a guy in a motorcycle behind me at the drive in teller turned off his bike and walked up to my window to talk about the car. At a flea market one day I found a guy on the ground looking under my chassis.
I love the interior and the feel of the steering wheel, handling and steering feel but over all I sit so low the car feels like it is driving me. Therefore, I can't drive it hard with confidence (e63 was more fun) and it isn't as comfortable as my wife wants for a grand tourer.

Ill get back when I drive it. The only thing in advance is the awd.
The above sounds like what I am experiencing, except in addition what I dont like is if I feg. change lane in rush hour I get the horn or blinking lights every time. This would not happen with a Volvo. Also have been stopped for routine checkups by police without any reason. This has also never happened to me before and frankly I dont like it. The M5 and also the RS6 are so much stealthier.
