AutoZeitung: BMW M550d xDrive im Test
Short test in AutoZeitung: 0-100 km/h in 4,9 s, 100-0 km/h in 35,5m/34,5m consumption 8,9l/100km.

Not quite what was promised, but impressive!

They also tested it in Auto Motor und Sport (info Dede@germancarforums:

Interesting results: they gave 4 stars out of 5 at the end (the new Alpina D5 got 5/5).

The performance is great, but:
- because of its weight the cornering-ability is no perfect
- the fuel consumption is relatively high
- steering is a bit heavy
- the costs are higher (compared to the 535d and D5 Biturbo)
- 0-100 km/h in 5,0 s (claim is 4,7)...

price as tested 102.500 !!!!! well that's VERY close to M5 even in Germany! hell its >$130.000, and you get M5 in USA for $90.000, ridiculous

In Germany, if you normalize equipment between M550xd and M5, you are looking at roughly 17,000 Euros difference, and that doesn't take into account the cost of the AWD that the M550xd has. That's still a significant difference, and if they made the M550xd significantly cheaper it just wouldn't be in line with the pricing of the other F10 diesel cars.

Regarding the Auto-Motor-Sport test - sadly, this review is pretty sloppy regarding the price discussion. There are quite a number of factors they don't consider. Beginning with the fact that if you normalize equipment, the M550d is just 7,000 Euros more expensive than a 535xd. The car has so much more standard equipment, it's useless to compare list base prices.

I'm not so sure, do your search on mobile.de and you will see that prices for M5 and 550d are basically the same!

I have verified the equipment lists item by item which is why I am sure, and I do know how much less an M550xd would have cost compared to my M5.

Its not an M5, but a F10 built by the M-division. It is hard to place. Hardly belongs in the normal section...

Can you really say its not a M car?
