UK Standard Spec

OK is it just me or did the same IDIOT create the UK standard spec again. Sunroof standard, oh you don't have to have it but we will still charge you for putting a huge weight in the worst possible place in the car for CoG. After all its not a performance car that is built for great handling. We understand that the roof is important because on the M6 coupe and M3 coupe we use carbon to lower the CoG

We'll put in 4 zone climate so you never have to open any window for all passengers and the driver to be kept at a comfortable temperature let alone shift that weight in the roof to open another hole and let in the sun and outside air.

Do you guys use sunroofs often and its just me that thinks it's a stupid option to have as standard???

I mentioned this when speccing the E60 and was shocked again today when looking through the UK standard spec at the dealership

The sunroof is a necessity for me. I love proper open top motoring, but having a sunroof is at least better than nowt. In a car weighing as much as an M5, I'm not too concerned about a few kilograms up there. If the sun's out, the lid's usually off.

In the 5 and a half years we've had the E60 the sun roof has been opened 3 times by my son but only because he wanted to play with buttons. To be honest I never have the windows open unless its for enjoying the sound effects since I had the mods

I agree and when I had the M3 convertible the roof was down more time than up but I never found a sunroof worth opening as it doesn't offer any of the feelings of being in a convertible.

IIRC they quoted well over 30kg for the sunroof and motors etc in the E60 and that weight is as far as possible from the CoG. Not a huge amount in the scheme of the car but I just wish it was my option to decide if I want it not bee forced to pay even if I choose to not have it installed.

You know, a sunroof is not that bad to have on an M5. For me, an M5 is somewhat empty without the black glass on the roof. It's cool to have glass on your car's roof.

Why have Air-Con and a sun roof?, not required thanks. As stated to much weight in the wrong place.

Need a sunroof! E92 M3 or M6, I am all for carbon. But not in a big sedan!

If you want one then fine, the complaint is I have to pay for it even tho I don't want it fitted. Was hoping to see if it was just me that thought it was not something for a dynamic car and it seems that more people want it than not from the small response.

The UK price is lower than in the rest of Europe, so having more equipment and a lower price mustn't give you any reason to complain about. Will you feel 20KG on top of a 1000KG car? Maybe...
Will you feel 20KG on top of a 2000KG car? No.
I am sure that more people want it (and it makes sense considering the purpose and weight of the car) than those who don't. I for one would like to see the Sun from time to time...
