How do you determine that from the car just smoking one tire? Looks like a test mule that may not have a properly set up LSD yet to me
I did not know this engine was developed by BMW AG not BMW M. Is that really true? Thats kind of sad, not only are the x5//M cars not true Ms for all the obvious reasons, but they dont even have an M at heart. I hope the M5 version gets enough massaging by true M engineers to make it a good powerplant for the car
For the record I beleive the X5M handles great for being a SUV snd the shifts with the autogearbox are superfast. I had a new respect for the X5M after I ran it on the track. Alot of fun, grip and torque at all RPM at play. If BMW M and BMW manages to such a good SUV it looks promising for the new M5.
I have to agree and feel the same. I noticed the car liked to put power down at 3-5k RPM and the torque threw you back into the seat. I was very surprised at that feeling from an M engine.. very different. I liked it but was just disappointed as it did not feel fast. However I still believe the F10 M5 will be a great car and not carry the same dislikes from the X5M.
I so don't want one...leaves me absolutely cold. Even the motor; at least with the E60 i lusted after that V-10...The E90 M3 on the other hand is pure sex but so small.
ANGOLA " I have both X5M ( 5400 KM ) and my third M5 ( 1900 KM )
Hello friends...
E60 M5 had a 2008 model that I made 10,300 KM and I had an E60 M5 that I sold in 2009 with 25,000 KM ... I have now this e60 M5 2010 with 1900 KM. I bought in January and now has the X5M 5400 KM ...
Dear Sirs,
Cars are so different and yet the two fascinating.
The XDrive X5M of 90% of occasions always beats the M5 up to 100 KM ...
The M5 is only better than X5M from KM 100 up to 320 km
The most important aspect is how one deals with the M5 curve. behaves in
Traction devices react to the conditions that are happening. The M5 fixes after losing the balance of the car ... The M5 loses his balance several times and we have to be in the middle of the curve to accelerate and gain traction ... You lose precious time ..
The X5M is different: with XDrive and operation of the Torque Vectoring, has a behavior that anticipates the problems ... behaves like a Kart.
The X5M will always get away with more balance ... Sometimes I try to make certain curves that have little grip and are in my opinion 80% of normal times and X5M CURVE VERY BEST.!
From the standpoint of confidence, I prefer the X5 M. ..
But dear friends the M5 is wonderful because only those who know how to drive, that can challenge the M5 ... depends on the day ... sometimes prefer the M5 and other days the X5M ... box automatically the X5 M is very fast and effective ..
But SMG is something I will miss the rest of my life ... THANK GOD THAT MY 2010 M5 has only 1900 KM ...
(I tried a Panamera Turbo FULL / brakes to ceramic and Sport Plus had everything ..) and a car is very friend ... predictable .. AWD ... It helps a lot ...
As for the new F10 if you have:
HP 600 and 750nm,
1950 Kg
torque vectoring,
M-DTC
Integral Active Steering,
I have the opinion that the new M5 will make 4.2 Sec F10 0 / 100 KM and will Sec 12 0 / 200 KM ..
What will Nurburgring in 7:50 Min.
And as always technology will seriously ..
I have BMW's since 1988 ... Some M, if ever that BMW has an "M" are in the presence of a piece of art and an experience that dictates the rules that other manufacturers have to achieve ... Several times I have seen tests between the E60 M5 2010 with its competitors and even with 6 years of release is better than them and who can win something is a little different ..
Technology and engineering is with BMW ...!!!!
Let's wait and be sure that the wonderful new M5 F10 ... I already have a guaranteed ...!!!
You sir know what you are talking about. Regarding the X5 M is what I felt as well: supreme confidence at most speeds when really pushing it in the corners.
See the end corners where I am chasing thje M5 Touring:

the X5 has everything shoved into the center of the nose and up-high - while the M5 has the two side intakes on both sides of the radiator - it makes sense that it'll have the intercoolers on both sides of the radiator
The final product maybe grand indeed but I find the engine a visual disappointment. On my e24 and e34 m6 and M5's I relished opening the hood and showing off the glorious straight six with the impressive throttle bodies, valve cover and other miscellaneous goodies. Now all we see are bits of colored plastic. Even my e39 M5 looks more impressive. I hope this is not the final product?
