We've already seen these pictures, but here's More Speculation:
Quote:
"Rumors (and good sense) suggest BMW is definitely scrapping the current M5's V-10, which is no longer relevant in today's fuel economy- and C02-conscious world. Instead, we expect the new M5 will use a version of the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 found in the new X5 M and X6 M SUVs. While those two behemoths put out 547 bhp, a BMW source told us the twin-turbo V-8 engine "has the potential to put out far more than that." A good guess would peg the new M5 at just under 600 bhp. Gearbox-wise, we were told the current M5's SMG is definitely dead (okay by us), almost certain to be replaced by BMW's twin-clutch M-DCT system with six (or more likely seven) forward gears."
Sounds like the same speculation over and over again...

Still speculation and nothing official from BMW, but not looking good for the V10 or SMG.
I really was hoping for both!!!
Sounds horrible to me....NO V10...NO 600+ HP, NO N/A high rev, Motor from SUV, NO smg....my God, what are they trying to do sell a Mercedes??? Who the hell buys these cars and thinks...oh I need to save money on gas milage

That's fine. My current M5 will just get a Dinan stroker, have the SMG, and 600+ BHP at 8000+ RPM. These cars should take steps forwards, not backwards. And I don't give 2 SHEEEIITTTTSSS about fuel mileage, the car is $100,000!!!
Once again just speculation. That article + information means nothing.
Everything means nothing until it's printed text with a BMW letterhead.
While I agree, and stated such in post, it is becoming clear that the overall group speculation from auto sources is that the V10 N/A is dead. Being auto enthusiasts, this is all we have to go off of until a press release with BMW's name on it becomes available. So we discuss the "speculation". The more information leaking out from auto sources in the industry, the less likely I see BMW jumping out and saying surprise, with a 620 hp N/A V10 and improved SMG.
Throwing away a N/A V10 platform for total BS "green" theme because it is "no longer relevant in today's fuel consious world" is madening.

That is enough for me to not buy a new M5/6. I would much rather find a 2010 with no miles on it...if I could even find one in 2011 or when they release the official platform, and send it to Dinan for the stroker motor if that were the case. Screw fuel economy...if you are worried about that go buy a honda accord to drive. Maybe our current model will hold it's value if they do away with the V10. I can see a lot of people not wanting the new M5/6 if they throw a 4.4L V8 in it.

If you think of it that way then I believe the German Auto website article about the N/A V10 600hp+ 9000rpm DCT -20%fuel being that the author was in the test vehicle which was driven by the BMW test driver (claudia) who would not answer questions about the car (they just observed the car and reported on it. being 9000k means v10 n/a as turbos do not rev that high) - I believe the german people over road&track's secret bmw informant.
Allllllllll Speculation. Either way I do believe it will be an amazing vehicle. I have confidence in M division.

If this article is right I'm moving to porsche or something else that is NA. I absolutely despise the artificial feel and lag of FI engines.
As much as I love my M6 I have to agree.
"No Compromise"
I don't want a compromised car. I work hard to afford the things I enjoy, I don't want a unnecessarily compromised car. BMW / M has really been giving our market segment the shaft with the canceling of the CS, creation of slushbox SUV AWD M's and the new 5 GT monstrosity. I think turbos will be the last straw for me...
I feel like a broken record...but it's only because I care.
