BMW M to AutoBild: New BMW M5 F10 presented summer / autumn 2010, revs to 9000 rpm, 600+ HP DCT, -20% fuelconsumption

Release summer / autumn 2010 according to article in German Auto News and BMW M 25 Year Anniversary of the BMW M5.

I'm not 100% sure how to judge the quotes from the German text but it seems that there might be truth in this.

Auto-News -> 25 Jahre BMW M5: Business Sport – Alle Modelle auf der Nordschleife (Nachricht)

English Google Translation:

A successor will be

The new generation of the BMW 5 Series will be presented in November 2009. The M version is still a bit slow in coming - in the summer or autumn of 2010, it might be ready. Information about new business-understatement-there are hardly any cars. Still, Dr. Kay Segler, head of M GmbH, tells us: "We want to achieve fuel consumption reduction of 20 percent." On the north loop, we then proceed with more in a single piece: an anniversary M5. To questions about the car, we are cultivating silence - but we must go along, Claudia Hürtgen sits at the helm. The Special-M5 ballert off without traction interruption - apparently believes that a new version of the already deployed in the M3 seven-speed dual clutch transmission, now also the torque of an M5 engine. This finding is expressed by us Hürtgen uncommented. The motor rotates up to 9,000 rev / min high and feels after 600 hp. In the next few descendants in 1985 in Amsterdam featured stealth M5 we are already looking forward.

So this will be a DCT?

No mention of engine specifics, but to get 20% improvement in fuel consumption and 600 hp at that high of rpm, this would be NA?

If this is there publicized target date, how far behind will we actually see the car, much less in the US?

So its a 2.3 liter turbo diesel 6 cylinder running at 200 psi. Just kidding (I hope).

9000 rpm, 600 hp and DCT - all sounds great, but I'll believe it when we see it. Glad they hope to release it in 2010. Now when will the M6 appear?

20% better fuel economy relative to the e60 just puts it at the bottom of the pack relative to competitors...but overall i like where they seem to be headed on most fronts.

That would put it around 14mpg

I get 12.5 on my M5.Not sure 20% would mean anything.

The 750 gets 16 mpg out of that engine at 440hp but it is headed in the right direction. I wonder if BMW will incorporate their KERS technology from the soon to be defunct F1 cars.

Have a look at the new Mclaren. V8 and 600bhp and 9000rpm. No one has mentioned who developed the motor for them though.

the engine is homegrown...

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/exotic...look/index.html

"The MP4-12C will have around 600 horsepower -- just 27 horses less than the fabled F1 -- and is expected to weigh just over 3000 pounds, at least 100 less than an F430 coupe and almost 300 less than a Gallardo. It will boast a host of performance-enhancing technologies that could only come from a company operating at the cutting-edge of Grand Prix race-car engineering, including a carbon-fiber chassis, light and compact McLaren-developed seven-speed dual-clutch manual transmission, active roll control, and advanced aerodynamics.

Mercedes, which owns 40 percent of McLaren Group (including McLaren Racing, the F1 team, McLaren Electronic Systems, McLaren Applied Technologies, and McLaren Automotive) offered an engine for the car, but the MP4-12C is powered by a bespoke 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 with quad cams and four valves per cylinder, a dry sump, and a flat-plane crankshaft. "The problem with using other people's engines is you're tied to their cycle plans,"

Well imagine we get something like that. Revs, power, low weight best of all worlds.
