Since there is doubt that the car the reporter sat in wasnt the F10, allow me put a twist and ask this. What are the chances that BMW infact did the new 25th anniversary edition run upto 9k rpm? If you think of it, its not just another 200 or 300 extra revs over the current model (e60 M5), its a whopping 750 more. Which makes it less likely that the car they were in was just a anniversay model.

And to think of it more, when has any reporter been in a car that was in the design and testing stage and have actually got a chance to see it perform?! Thats zip which just makes thinking of this more and more complicating... Ahhh im lost and cant think of an answer for all this controversy.

The only logic guess is that its been made up? errrrr

I have to revise my original comment after re-reading the article. Here is my exact translation:

"The new generation of the BMW 5 series will debut in November 2009. The M version will be kept waiting a bit -- it could be ready in the summer or fall of 2010. There is little information about this newest business-understatement vehicle. Nevertheless: M-GmbH chief Kay Segler tells us: " We want to achieve a 20% savings in fuel economy". Later we take a drive on the Nordschleife in a unique version: the anniversary M5. When asked about the car we are answered by silence, but we were allowed to ride along with Claudia Huertgen at the wheel. The special edition M5 bounds along without a break in acceleration: apparently the new version of the M3's seven speed double clutch transmission can handle the extra torque of the M5's engine. When we mention this to Huertgen there is no comment. The engine revs to 9000 rpm and feels like it has 600 hp. We can't wait for the replacement of the M5 which was originally introduced secretly in Amsterdam in 1985."

Still not sure what they were driving--could be a new drive train in the E60 M5 anniversary edition body?

I do of course NOT know if what the article is saying is made up or is what really happened.... so my translation is 'without engagement'
and best to my ability only..... = do not shoot the messenger, please...

Ein Nachfolger wird kommen
There will be a successor.
The new generation of the BMW 5-series will introduced in November 2009.
For the M-version one will have to wait for some while - in the summer or autumn 2010 it could be time for it.Informationen zum neuen Business-Understatement-Wagen gibt es kaum.
Immerhin: Dr. Kay Segler, Chef der M GmbH, sagt uns: „Wir wollen Verbrauchsreduzierungen von 20 Prozent erreichen.“
In any case: Dr. Kay Segler, MD of the M GmbH, tells us: We intend to reach a 20% reduction of petrol-consumtion.
On the 'Nordschleife' (NuerburgRing) we are then taking a ride in a one of a kind: an anniversary-M5.Auf Fragen zu dem Wagen ernten wir Schweigen – aber wir dürfen mitfahren, Claudia Hürtgen sitzt am Steuer.
Upon questions about the car we reap silence - but we are allowed passenger ride, with Claudia Huertgen att the wheel. The special-M5 screams away without any pulling power interruption -aparently does a new version of the seven-gear-doubleclutch gearbox already used in the M3 cope with the torque of an M5-engine. This remark made by us is left without a comment by Huergen. The engine revs up to 9.000 rpm and feels like 600 bhp. For the next successor of the in 1985 in Amsterdam surreptitiously introduced...... = the article is ending in the middle of the meaning/sentence....

I am serious, I want one of those jackets. I could really care less about unsubstantiated rumors that continue to circulate. I have seen the jacket and I know it exists. Now if someone can provide me with a part number that would be great.

I agree that BMW makes lots of money off of lifestyle accessory and replacement parts. However I also want to point out that BMW has been quoted many times as saying the e60 M5 was their most profitable car.

Although I am extremely busy with other tasks I try to be helpful whenever there is a demand, however,
it is also an open secret that my interest in 'lexus-styled' BMWs is limited, unless they do intend to make
a 'touring'-version, of course..........

If anyone has contacts to 'Ring-Sabine' she might know how to get in contact with Claudia H....

Honestly, I don't take any of these reports too seriously any more. I appreciate that people are posting them, and I like seeing them, but there are so many different reports going around now that it is hard to really know whats coming. I think it will be a TT V8 (not happy about this) just because I got a bad vibe with all of Kay Segler's talk about fuel economy. However, I could be totally wrong...
