"We want to achieve fuel consumption reduction of 20 percent". If that's their opening/first sentence, then I think that says a lot. But down right stupid, because do we here care about that on high performance cars?! That's a strong hint that turbos are on their way, perhaps.

I don't think that the goal of 20% fuel consumption reduction takes away the chance of an NA engine. That would put the car at around 14.5mpg around town and I know plenty of people that get that in the new LP 560...in fact the LP 560's fuel consumption improved by close to that number over the old Gallardo so maybe there is still hope...everyone keep your fingers crossed.
I work for BMW and was informed from our National Rep last week. The new M5 will launch in the late summer/fall 2010 assuming everything stays on schedule.
That is very strange. As I understand it that must be the regular M5 E60?

M5's and M6's account for a tiny percent of BMW cars on the road. They should focus all there green efforts on reducing emissions for the vanilla BMW line instead of running to FI for the M's.
Look at the 458, V8 NA 560hp @ 9k redline and it gets a combined 17.1mpg!! BMW stepped up when they made the S85, they need to step up again and improve on the S85 instead of depending on FI like most other performance cars.

Green efforts in most counties give kudos even if it is in reality b*ll*cks to keep the greenies happy lol! Like you said most of us M5 owners don't give a toss for fuel econ', range is another thing altogether
As for comparing to the ferrari, its in a different price point (almost double the price of the M5), internal engine component weight saving and friction reductions that Ferrari have employed are very very expensive both in material and machining where turbos are very cheap and very effiencent by comparison.
Why do we keep skating around the real question here.....how do I get one of those Jackets!!

Are you serious or ironic.....? Because nowadays BMW does make MORE money by selling -lifestyle-products- than by
selling motorcars..... don't ypu know ???
Contact your nearest 'stealer' and order one > it is that easy ( as the 'stealer' normally has limited knowledge about what BMW has
to offer, you might need to give them a helping hand with providing the part number -
Many years ago my father already had one of those, with a different design but all white with a lot of M/Motorsport colours all
over it. It is still alive but VDERY dirty by now

Is a translation of the german article into a little more understandable english still wanted ?? If so, let me know and I can give it a try.
