Nice read when looking for a global view, though I dont at all agree with the statements regarding the US market, or the theory that people want "Smaller cars and smaller engines" ...thats just absolutely NOT the case in the US market, and will not be in any time frame spoken in the article, there is no way that the US market will go from only 5% turbos today to 85% in the next 10 years, we arent giving up our big engines and big cars for anything, and since we are a very large market for many, including BMW and M, they better choose wisely as to who's opinons and statistics are used as a basis for future product strategies...

Looks like stroker engines might be selling more than anticipated at least in the American market. I heard from a reliable source that when the M division first started discussing plans for the F10 M5, a larger displacement version of the current V 10 was considered, but that idea was scrapped for a TT V8. It is truly amazing how much extra power can be extracted from this V10 by increasing the bore and stroke.

Win win for Dinan. And for those that want to increase the power of the TT V8, Dinan will most certainly have software upgrades.

So far, I've only seen stoking on the S-85 motor. Have you seen the Dinan video where the heads are pulled off? The cylinders are very close already. Not sure you could bore them much.

Note that the M3 GTS uses a 4.4 liter engine and the one-off M5 CSL uses a 5.5 liter S-85. Looks like the M5 CSL engine was easy to build once they had the M3 GTS engine in hand (as the S-65 is just 80% of an S-85).

They excluded the MB AMGs (citing low production volume) yet included the M5 & M6. They also excluded other ultra performance but low production rate cars. So is this fair? Or does BMW sell so many beasts that we should be identified as part of the greenhouse problem while the cars we are most competitive with get a pass?

Here you go:

Dinan used to subcontract the bore work but the only way to get the quality they wanted was to bring the work in-house. They are an excellent outfit.

Thanks Ashok, that's the video I was talking about! Check how thin it is between cylinders at 1:42 into the video.

I hated older turbocharged engines because of the lag and torque fade as RPM increased, but it looks like new technology is solving (or dramatically minimizing) these issues to yield powerful, responsive, and fun engines that are also lighter and more efficient.
