Voice your concerns here about the new M5 / M6

Dear fellow current ///M Owners.

I wanted to kick off a poll where we can voice our concerns about the new generation of ///M cars. Turbocharging is almost a certainty.

You can cast multiple votes - please limit yourselves to 4 votes so that we can extract meaningful data and they will be public.

I hope the ///M engineers who are being pulled off the F1 program are reading this thread and listen to existing customers who may want to get the new ///M

To me, M is becoming AMG. I HIGHLY doubt I will purchase the F10 M5. Wishlist - I want a 3400 lb M3-sized sedan with M5 power. The current and future M5 is and will be too large and too heavy. The NA V10 is a delight, but it would be truly beautiful in a smaller, lighter car.

However, while BMW may have lost my fun-car purchase, I will probably buy another DD from them - either an X5M, which I don't consider an M-car, or a 750i.

I can't believe you didn't put the tranny on the poll, Tbone. With all the power in the world, just need a tranny/clutch that can handle the power.

After three trips to dealer for tranny mulfunction related, no more POS SMG crap for me!!!!

Watch out BMW and M, T Bone is back and taking no prisoners.

If F10 proves disappointing, there might be a market for Dinan to buy current gen M5's and M6's and then modify them with stroker motors, thereby competing directly with BMW.

Next event, just ask. Hopefully the new rear tires I am getting today will help with my severe traction issues.

I want over 600 horses, a big V10 (preferably V12) and a sound that blasts everything else away, with SMG IV. These are the issues most at stake, IMHO. If we see a TTV8, then I'm totally undecided.

Continual light weight development, strong brakes and handling should be M prerequisites (maybe except the brakes, which some say could be much better). Light weight development is a particular challenge given cars are physically getting bigger, more electrical creature comforts etc.

As for fuel economy, this is not a Prius discussion forum.

thanks for starting this T, we need to get all members on the e60 and e63/64 board to take this poll!

I can say with 99% certainty that i would not buy a v8TT \\\m car that has its engine sharing with crap trucks or non-m cars. I would not rule out a TTv10 based on the S85 as I know the beast and all that it is.

from the poll, i can say that i dont really care about the ceramic brakes since they are really only needed for pure track use, but i do think that by this point, M should be using brembos as standard equiptment. the per unit cost if used across all the Ms would be well worth it and not take away any profits from bmw...hell there are so many relatively cheap cars that offer these as standard that its laughable that M doesnt already.

turbo lag will be evident, no matter what and that is unacceptable.

if they cut the weight, they will not need to up the power so I dont care about the numbers game really

I can also say that the continued voice of the MINI ceo, aka the "new" \\\m head leads me to believe that bmw is destroying its loyal enthusiast base and couldnt care less. These cars are such low volume that there should never be any concern over efficiency other than natural progression of technology, ie direct injection or KERS for ex. This rediculous path that m is trying to follow, this "green path" , or atleast falsely trying to follow in their hypocritical nature as is absolutely evident when they release wanna b \\\m trucks that weight well over 5000lbs, just shows how lost they are. Dont fight for 20 years against FI and laud the benefits and philosophy of NA as your core belief, and then one day wake up and say to us all, we were kidding, turbos are great!!!! now we should just follow them down their path to pure greed??? its trully dishartening and pathetic to be honest, but unfortunately the masses will accept anything because we, the loyal traditionalist/enthusiats have built up the mystique of the "M" to such a stratospheric level that anything to be offered with the letter on the boot will be bought for status.

we need to make some noise, some LOUD noise to BMW NA, its our only hope really, we need a grassroots movement like the 6MT process that was successful in getting the enthusiasts point accepted and intergrated. i have little hope though, but i will not settle (or atleast I wont pay the premium for an m!) and if that takes me away from my beloved Bayerische Motoren Werke's products, then so be it.
