BMW Z10 direction of BMW

Just found in a magazine today, info on a "GREEN" BMW Supercar.

Autocar - BMW Z10 ED: the eco-supercar

Not too sure what this says about the direction BMW are taking, looks like they are going away from out and out performance in favour of green technology.

Hybrid M5 anyone ?

I read that they will replace large engines with smaller capacity ones with turbos.

I think the article also stated that BMW was perfecting the production and building capabilities of carbon-fibre construction, making for lighter more rigid bodies. Should be very interesting.

the pics are old ( and fake as well, photoshop with R8 Ferrari etc influence), the new part is the speculation about the "hybrid" tech and the 3litre turbo etc. But seems very feasible. And considering F1 cars are developing the KERS system it seems likely we will start seeing truly performance orientated hybrid supercars. M-B is going in that direction as well. A "electric" turbo + a efficient FI engine... Doesn't sound too bad.

I did remember something about the hybrid thing, that BMW and Mercedes were working together on it.

BMW and Mercedes to co-develop high-end hybrid powertain | Car News Blog at Motor Trend

May explain why both companies are coming out with such ideas.

I just hope that these developments don't affect the performance on the high performance models in the immediate future.

Unfortunately I don't think we will see the Z10 or any other supercar anytime soon.

BMW won't burn the money to develop it in this crappy economy. (Yet they can build the nonsensical X1, X5M and X6M).

The Hybrid systems will be developed for the new M5 / M6s.

My 2 cents.
