Read today, Roudel Page 34, left hand collumn 3/4's way down... . Pressurized M5 Possible:the next M5 may possibly be powered by a twin turbocharged S85 V 10 enlarged to 5.5 liters claiming 550 HP. mated to the M3 trans of the convertable. .
Now, what I don't understand is the output of ONLY 55o hp. we can do that NOW without a turbo extreamly easy....that is a misprint, has to be ...even if they DE-tuned the engine for longevity, it would still put out more than that... . . Well it would be nice, emagine the hop up tuning and hardware that would become available for it ???? 900 H.P. ??? Yea baby

Nah, I think this is just more mis-information and rumors. Roundel is pretty good about this, but nobody weeds out all the BS. I believe the next generation M5 will be NA somewhere in the neighborhood of 550hp with, hopefully, some better low end tourque. Seems to me somebody mixed that topgether with the rumors of a twin turbo from about 6 months ago and this blurb was the result.
Pressurized M5 possible:
There's still a chance that the next M5 could be powered by a twin-turbocharged S85 V10 - enlarged to 5.5 liters, claiming 550 horsepower, and mated to the seven-speed M double-clutch transmission that debuted last May in the M3 convertible.
And yeah, why only 550hp?

These comments have been flying around for a bit now and who knows.
I will say that an increase in displacement to 5.5 L maintaining the V10 and adding TT better yield a much higher hp gain than 550 bhp.
To me that is a pathetic increase with those added mods from factory.
I would think 650 bhp would be appropriate.
I look at what GM did with the ZR1 in development from the Z06.
If this is what the truly develop then BMW ///M division will sadly fall behind .
As much as I love the brand, personally I will turn away.

I drove a Turbo for the first time the other night... 535i... nice car but I would still prefer my straight 6, V8, or V10 any day. I know that it is an amazing engine but something about the natural rev and response is addictive.
