119.5 mph drag trap

The guys in my shop took our M6, GTR, and a customer's Noble M400 to the Gainesville Raceway last night. Typical night of no traction with street cars and all the dirt that comes off their tires. M6 ran just over 119mph trap speed which is pretty strong. Dinan ECU, Dinan exhaust, Evosport headers, and Dinan wheels with PS2 tires.

In sunny So Cal my monster is subjected to allot of sun. Being a black interior on Black Sapphire you can imagine it gets pretty hot in the parking lot. I've been searching for a custom made dash cover, one, to save the dash from the sun damage, and secondly to help reduce the glare that is reflected on the inside windshield from the dashboard.

Has anyone in here found a nice cover that suits the car. I've seen a couple of carpet versions and some cheap velour but neither with a HUD Cutout. Any help is much appreciated.:cool:

22" wheels on M6, does it mess up the tranny?

Ive owned 2 M6 coupes and am trying to sell my CLS63 to get an M6 convertible(i moved from SHITcago to San Diego:hihi:) Anyway, when i owned my M6's i was warned against getting 22" wheels bc it messed up the SMG tranny...I heard 21's were the max?? My dealer friend has an M6 convertible which is nice but has 22's on it and wanted to be sure it wouldnt mess up the tranny....Any help is appreciated....And my question only pertains to it messing with the tranny, im already fully aware of ride quality etc...

SOS Malfunction / iDrive crippled

Ugh, my first real problem with the car... :( It's a 2009 (bought in April 2009) with only 3,100 miles on it, this isn't supposed to happen yet!

NOTE: I have the previous version of iDrive (right before HD). But my car has the buttons for the ned HD iDrive, weird... I wonder if I can upgrade???

The other day I was driving along having while having a bluetooth phone convo with the wife and as soon as I hang up, things go weird...

The iDrive says I'm still on the call so I check my iPhone, and it's hung up. I try to end the call via iDrive, and it doesn't give me any phone/communication options. I'm in heavy traffic, so at a red light I shut the car down and restart. No luck. Radio never comes back off of mute from the call. Fortunately NAV still works but without any audio. All ENTERTAINMENT is muted. Most of the options (CD/Radio/etc...) are grayed out (un-selectable). Needless to say, I'm bummed. I don't try any other diagnostics until I get home, just in case she decides to shut down in traffic. Plus once I get home I get to search these boards!!! Once I get home I shutdown and restart again. No luck. I log onto the boards and read the various threads. I try the forced iDrive reboot (press both eject buttons along with volume button), no luck. I also try the eject DVD procedure to try and restart the iDrive, still no luck. So I'm forced to go to my dealer...

I call my service adviser and he says it sounds like the CCC (main iDrive module???). When he takes a look he says it's the TCU and is not a totally uncommon thing. Based on my reading of the board, it isn't an unheard of thing. He says he needs approval from BMN North America to replace. Today I'm dropping it off and he says it will take 2-4 days to fix. Thank goodness my adviser is nice enough to always give me my choice of loaner, but too bad my dealer doesn't have M loaners. I asked for a 135.

So have any of you experienced this??? Is my adviser's time estimate (2-4 days) accurate???

So I have heard that you have to modify the stock rear bumper diffuser to get the AC schnizter rear diffuser add on to fit?

I thought and CEC has told me that it's simply an adhesive/glue on piece.. but I am wondering if any cutting has to be done to the stock bumper/diffuser has to be done to get this piece to fit

I am talking about this ACS rear diffuser with the cf piece in the middle.

I picked up a preowned 06 M6 last week, I realized it had 20's on it later and was wondering if BMW offered a 20 option via accessories, we could not find them in the dealer books... They do have the BMW roundel and the "M" logo's on them...

Hi everybody, ive been browsing this forum for many months (getting plenty of inspiration and know how along the way) and thought it was about time i said hello.

ive had my M6 coupe for a few months now after trading in my heavily modded e46 M3 cab for it. its a silverstone blue with silverstone leather example with full options and its without a doubt the best car ive owned so far.

so far the mods are:

eisenmann 'race' exhaust (sounds fantastic!)
software remap and top speed delimt (by E-maps in the UK)
20" x 9" and 20" x 11" custom modular concept wheels (very, very rare in the uk) finished with colour coded silverstone blue centers and outer pin stripe and gloss black lips.
snooper hardwired radar detector.
colour coded and black kidney grills (only fitted yesterday-not shown in pics)

after browsing this forum i have the following mods on order:

H&R springs (im after a decent drop without going the coilover route)
RPI scoops and block off plates
BMC filters
Vorsteiner front splitter
black side grills
exhaust tips are going to be refinished in gloss black to match the rims along with a few other bits.

are there any other mods anyone would recommend?

ive attached a few pics, pre lowering so obviously the car looks a bit high, along with a couple of pics from the local drag strip (won my class first time out:) ) and a quick pic of my old m3 cab for those that are interested (loved the car but the M6 is on a different league!)

Hi Chaps,

Been a lurker on here for about 6 months, and thought it was about time I said hello to everyone :) So, hello! :)

I've got an M6 of course, 2008, Black, with black Schnitzer rims and thats about it really, shes my cruiser as I travel a lot up and down the UK, by far and above the best car for long distance travelling I've ever owned!! (and also for showing other road users whos boss on occasion :) )

Im looking to do some mods over the next few months, exhaust, and intake, maybe some body mods but not sure if I want to do anything more than that as she's my daily, Ive got another toy for weekend thrash hehe.

A few pics I guess would be good....so they are attached.

Also added a few of my weekender, as we are all petrol heads here Im sure no one will mind :)

Shes a Ferrari 355, heavily modded this one, Challenge wheels, brakes, and some punchy engine mods too.

Hi guys I wonder if you could give me some advice on the M6. I am buying a car cash (UK) for budget of �35000 from a dealer in December/January.

For this price there are about 15 for sale in the UK at any one time judging from Autotrader website. Mostly 2005 but more 2006 models creeping in week by week. Mileage usually between 20-50k. I intend trying for something around 35k ish

I have the following concerns and questions:

1) SMG - is this reliable?
2) How easy is it to get used to driving with no clutch (I currently have an E39 M5 as well as an E46 328i both manual)?
3) How long/to what mileage GENERALLY SPEAKING would you expect to have to do a clutch change and at what cost?
4) How reliable are the engines?
5) Does launch control use burn the clutch out quickly?
6) What other typical niggles could I expect as a rule?

I am really looking forward to driving and owning one of these cars - I am keeping my M5 as I really love driving it still and my 328i's great for work but to drive something over 500bhp is very appealing if a little scary thought!! However I know from the M5 scene that when things go wrong the wallet goes into melt down so I want to go in eyes wide open. For info the car, like my M5, will be strictly dry weather low miles weekend use.

Teflon Paint Treatment - Highly Recomended! Pics of results

I had my 06 with 21k miles (35k KM) on the clock in for paint treatment last week. Primarily this was to conserve the paint over winter where we have salt and sand on the roads to melt potential ice and give better traction when the temperature is below freezing.

I have done a lot of polishing myself the last few years including winning a few car shows with my previous car (heavily modded Nissan Nismo 350Z) so I know what a good polish looks like.

I was quite stunned with the results of the professional Teflon based treatment, the surface of the paint has such a low friction now that it feels like my hand doesn't even touch the surface... Water just falls off like its repelled by a magnet. Had the windows treated as well with some other special product that basically makes the vipers redundant... if you go over ~40MPH / ~70km/h the water just slides off the windscreen completely. The car looks better then new both outside and inside.

The paint treatment came with a 18 month warranty and the window treatment with 6 months. If it doesn't last the 18 months they will do a new complete treatment for free. They also treated the interior incl leather (a lot in a full leather equipped car:)) and textiles. I got the biggest package they had which was about 650 USD. There where some cheaper options for just external and that in two levels.

Im sure there are lots of smaller and larger companies that offers the same kind of treatments all over the world, so I just wanted to recommend this to those who haven't tried it yet. As water and dust doesn't stick to the car any more it stays cleaner for longer. Washing the car is a breeze, the car just looks like brand new or even better. Best of all is that it preserves the new and fresh look of the car for longer.:goldcup:

Data in the key

Does anybody know what information is actually saved in the key itself, apart from total mileage and some basic driver's options (seat/other settings)? Supposedly it should also store service history and any historic faults. Does the dealership know what service errors came up and when anyway, or does one have to keep a record (in instances when something comes and goes)?

engine burning more oil than gas!

ok, here's the deal...

about 6 months ago i bought a second hand 08 M6 with only 4.5K miles (around 7000KM) but as i tried to find out more about this car, i ended up knowing that the car had been almost 6 months without use.

when i received it in my country the car seems to be a great buy, but as i have been traveling i havent had the opportunity to actually enjoy the car. but about two weeks ago i left my car at the dealership to do a oil change and inspection and what brought the attention to us is that the car began burning a lot of oil. (around 1 lt every 150 miles) and yeees of course we use TWS.... now 400 miles after the oil change, i've add 2 lts of oil and things are not looking good.

we made a complete scan with bmw's DIS and the car does not complain about a thing! so my technician told me that his best shot is that the car is still getting used to be driven again (more than 1 year and only 600 miles of usage) and things should be back to normal after a few thousand miles and a few runs!

my only mods are dinan pulley, dinan intakes and front cats removal!

Hey guys I need to buy snow chains for my 10 days ski trip in Switzerland and Austria but it seems almost impossible in my county. I tried to buy them from USA but unfortunately tirechaindealer personnel told me they can't ship to Bulgaria. The only dealer for snow chains here is Koenig. The size of the snow chains will fit on my 18" OEM winter tires and rims (245/45/18) but do you think this model on the link is the right one for the M6?

i want to replace my stock wheels with nice & affordable aftermarket ones, so i was looking at the modsport wheels collection, and to be honest they are gorgeous, especially in the matte black finish ouich......i think they are very reasonably priced......but heres the question......will i be sacrificing quality and performance with these wheels :confused:?? does anyone on this forum have them on their baby?! if so how light are they compared to the stock wheels & how do they feel at high speeds?

Car drivable without wheel housing cover?

Hi all

Have a question for those experts here.

Last night, I drove into a medium-sized pot-hole as it was dark and didn't see it. Since then there has been this tinkling sound coming from underneath the car when i drive it.

So took it to dealership earlier today and they lifted the car and showed me the dangling part from the wheel housing cover of my front right wheel and the underneath cover for the engine is also cr@cked (why is this word censored?) as a result. Now they have had to order those parts for me of course costing me around US$ 400 which is great of course, and they said it would take 2 weeks to arrive from Germany as they don't have those parts in stock surprise surprise.

Just for now, they removed the part of the wheel housing cover that was loose and flapping so the noise stopped. But the area is still cr@cked and now since they removed that part, theres a decent sized hole. Mechanic told me that I could still drive the car temporarily maybe for 2 or 3 days but doesn't recommend that I overdo it as stones and other items may enter the engine area through the open hole.:sad3:

Penny for your thoughts? Anyone have similar issues? If so, did you still drive the car?

Comfort access trunk question

I have a 2007 M6 cab with comfort access (keyless entry/start). My problem is this...there are two keys, yet I can only open the trunk by hand (keyless) with one of them. They both have new batteries, both work to open doors and start vehicle keyless, but only one will allow me to get into trunk. They both also work with the remote buttons. I know that each key will remember certain settings such as seat position and radio channel favourites, so is there some setting to not allow trunk entry that one of the keys has memorized? Any ideas?

I recently went in for low tire pressure and weird grippy noise. They said they need to test drive the car to find out what the noise is about and they marked my mileage at 12000 which I found kind of peculiar since I had 1198x miles on it (I always thought they give the exact numbers). My car ended up at the dealership for 3 days as they said there is a nail in the tire (which needs to be replaced), the noise is due to some differential problem (which they claim to have fixed but I can still clear the noise at times) and that they recommend alignment. My car was ready today but the odometer read 12028 (on the invoice, they again quoted 12020, a difference of 8 miles).

My question is, is it possible that the test drive + wheel change + alignment/wheel spin = 30+ miles? Or did someone take the car for a joy ride or two?

Edit: They charged me 425 for the alignment. I had to talk to another service adviser to get it reduced to 249......Daylight robbery?

Edit 2: Oh, I got a quote for fixing a few rock chips. They said they need to repaint the entire front part of the car and quoted me $2500. WTH????? For that, I might as well just get a new hood.....

Nav goes blank

noticed that my Nav goes blank at times....anyone had these issues?Took it to BMW today and the master tech says"there is a fault code and I have to run a PUMA case"any feed back is much appreciated...thanks :sad3:

matchbox cars because the enormous fender to tire gap. I use 10mm H&R spacers on my stock 19" in summer,but has anyone tried them on the 18" winters if they fit? :confused:

BMW’s M division has built a special lightweight one-off version of the E60 M5 as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for the iconic four door saloon.
Revealed this morning at BMW’s prototype workshop at the Nurburgring in Germany, the celebratory M5 is described by M division’s head of development, Albert Biermann, as “the M5 CSL we never built”.

Among the changes brought to the new car is a heavily modified version of the standard M5’s 5.0-litre V10 engine. The highly strung, 90-degree unit has been enlarged with a longer stroke taking its capacity up to 5.5-litres, making it the largest engine to ever feature in an official M-car.

Also included as part of the engine overhaul is a carbonfibre manifold boasting a increased capacity air box and a secondary oil cooler – the latter requiring modifications to the front bumper, which gains an additional air duct in the place usually dedicated to the license plate.
Official power and torque figures have not been released but Biermann hints the output peaks at “around 580bhp and close to 400lb ft”

Channelling the added reserves back to the rear wheels is a beefed up version of the M3’s seven-speed double clutch gearbox. The Getrag engineered unit, operated via steering wheel mounted paddles or push/pull gear lever, supplants the standard M5’s sequential seven speed manual unit, offering smoother and more rapid gear shifts.

Further changes centre around the body, which receives a carbonfibre roof as part of a weight saving program that has pared a claimed 50kg from the standard M5’s 1830kg kerb weight.

Yet despite the investment that has gone into creating the new uber-M5, Biermann says it is destined to remain a one-off.

“Right now we’re concentrating on the next-generation M5. This car has been fun to develop but there are no plans for production,” he says.

In Norway we had a TV series named AUTOFIL, where they had hired a proffessional Touring Car champion to put various cars on the test and here is the M 6 driven flat out without any electronic stabilty help. I took my car into the local BMW dealer on Wednesday due to reduced engine power, smg fault, emissions fault, and some other fault all at the same time. Today I call them and they still don't know what is wrong with the car. They said they have to fly someone down from New Jersey to find out what it is?? Anyone had this problem in the past where they bring someone from BMW HQ to look at it?? They said they have the motor apart down to the crank shaft and past the valves but still no clue....sounds interesting. Hope they fix it soon. I have only had the car for 2-3 months and this is the second time in the shop! What happens if the car is a lemon? Not sure, but I assume they would have to buy the car back according to NC law after 15 business days in the shop? I still love the beast so I would try to find another one. I am sure they wouldn't replace it for me with another one would they?? He mentioned a whole new motor...that is what scared me. Maybe he was joking but didn't sound like it...

I was wondering if anyone else has the same annoying driver seat as mine.
It squicks like hell around bends and in bumbs.
It wasn't doing it before, but it has developed this annoying sound lately.
I am going to book it in for an investigation at the dealer before the warantee expires.
Has anyone come accross anything like this and any ideas in how to rectify?

Dodgy carwash or rock chips?

Recently after a heavy rain in SoCal, I took my car to a local car wash for a wax (a big no-no). Today I noticed minor chips on the paint in at least 20 different areas on the hood and front bumper. It seriously looks like the car took a shower in rocks but I don't recall ever getting pelleted by rocks recently. Does anyone think its possible that a car wash can do this much damage to the paint?

I took a permanent marker and colored in the various white spots (the car is sapphire black) as a temporary solution but what would anyone recommend to fix these imperfections? There seems to be too many spots for a simple paint touch up but I am hesitant to repaint the whole front part as well since it may result in a different tone to the rest of the car. Should I replace my front bumper and hood? It seems like such a waste but I really can't think of any other solution. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Hi Everyone.

I just bought a 07 white M6. Its a great car and I am really enjoying it. I would like to find out about a driving performance school that would be available to me. I would like to learn how to drive this car better, and safer at a higher speed. I am available to attend a school in either California or Washington state almost any time.

If anyone knows of such a driving school I would really appreciate you sharing the information with me.
