Front Tire Size Question

Hello All! M5 newb here ;) Purchased an 06 a few weeks ago. It has 245/40/19 re050 bridgestones on the front and I want to remove them ASAP because:

1. They are smaller than the OEM size
2. Noisy as heck during deceleration from 40 MPH - i've experienced this before with the same tire on a different vehicle

Is it possible to run a 275/40/19 up front on the stock suspension? I'm interested in running a taller tire than stock (27.6 vs 27), since the M5 has some serious gap in the front - FYI I have had quite a few vehicles with modified suspensions and I really don't want to modify this one.

I understand that the 275/40/19 wheel width recommendation is 9-10" and the OEM wheel is only 8.5 - I'm thinking the .5 wouldn't be an issue.

Is anybody running that setup on the stock wheel? With/Without spacers?

Exceeded 105 mph during run-in!

Hello,

My car has done just under 400 miles and yesterday whilst testing the (M) button, I inadvertently exceeded the 105 mph and touched 120 for a few seconds. Is this likely to affect/invalidate the warranty? How do BMW view such digressions?

My Speed Limit alarm is set at 90 mph and now I wish I could have two alarms! I intend to drive it very slow for the next 1100 miles and will try very hard not to breach the 105 limit again.

Getting the run around on replacing steering wheel

My 06 M5 has 52k on the odo and I have owned it for about a month. When I was cleaning the interior I noticed the steering wheel was flaking. According to the board this is a common problem and the some members had got it "good willed" after the factory warranty had expired. I went to the dealer and he basically said that since I didn't buy the car from him he wasn't interested in helping me get the wheel replaced under warranty and that I should call BMWNA. I called them and they said it was up to the dealer and if he wouldn't back me they wouldn't do anything about it. It sucks that BMW won't stand behind there product.grrrrrrr

Is there a tell tale sign my clutch was really replaced?

Is there anything I can look at under the car to ensure my clutch was, in fact, replaced?

I'm asking because the dealer claims they replaced my clutch and flywheel, but the clutch didn't slip, it shifted great, and I don't feel any difference at all after the work. It was a warranty job and I didn't get any documents when I picked the car up. I have my paranoid doubts. Oh yeah, I'm also paranoid of the boogyman being under my bed, but that's a whole 'nother story.

ASR cold air intake and Gen 2 exhaust

With just ASR intake and exhaust car dynoed 455 whp and 341 tq...

i would have been perfectly happy with 440 whp. The most amazing thing about the mods is that Abid overlayed them with a stock dyno they had saved in the computer. Around 3k rpms theres about 60 -70 tq gain its incredible.

I had a run in with an particular blk on blk new CTS-V, I was trailing him for a few exits with no bite he wanted nothing to do with me. I was a bit disapointed, ok ok i was very disapointed at him and carried on, I was looking foward to racing him on an empty Highway with ample room for top speed. Well what happens when we get off the next exit and end up at a light. ahhh now he wants to race well unfortunally he spanked me I dont know what happned but he had 2 car leghnts on me by 3rd gear and more as i got into 4th. maybe i just didnt have perfect shifts :sad1:

See signature for the mods I got. I took it to my mustang guy who doestn work on M5 did the dyno and only put down 416 with my mods on a dyno jet!!! Gonna do it again in a week when we have more time and go over everything grrrrrrr

Noise when turning Right

Today on the way to the gym I noticed a rubbing type noise coming from the right rear side of the car. It seemed to be more apparent when
making a hard right turn. Has anybody had a similar experience? I did have my Dinan rear diff changed under warranty about three months ago.
The diff oil was changed after 1200 miles. I hate when something new comes up. Any advise would be appreciated.
My car has 52500 miles on the odometer.

Anyone with the Bruce M. adapter for replacing the 06 taillights, can you tell me whether they just turn on or off or do they illuminate in the sequence that they do on the new cars? That is, they sort of increase in intensity when first turned on and then th supplemental (round) light turns on sequentially. You can see this when you press the remote unlock button.

Second, does anyone know where the light control module is located? In the trunk? Under the hood? Kick panel?

My 06 Beast has only 25k miles. I am only the 2nd owner and have owned it for a couple of months now. Great car, absolutely love it. I've owned a couple M3's but this is my first M5. I'm definitely a BMW enthusiast.

Recently I've broken down twice, not happy. While driving in M mode, kinda hard (that is what the car is made for) the car started shifting really rough, banging into gears and bouncing around like crazy. It caused me to pull off the road. Then when I tried to put the car in first and give it some gas it would jerk forward and bounce around. I couldn't even drive home and had to get it towed to BMW. They said I had a leak in the SMG reservoir and it was repaired. After I got the car back this happened a 2nd time, now BMW is replacing my clutch.

I haven't got the M5 back yet but I am afraid there is more going on than just the clutch. I didn't feel any gradual wear while shifting gears. It just all of a suddon starting shifting really hard to the point where I could not change gears. I'm wondering if the transmission is going up or if this could just be the clutch itself?? It just seems really odd to me. Has anyone experienced this or have any input?

Dynoing for the first time

Taking my car to the dyno for the first time today. Anything I should expect them to do when they strap down the car? What gear should the car be dyno'd in? I am taking it to a shop that seems to work mostly on trucks and I'm not too sure they are familiar with dyno'ing a BMW m5. Is there anything I should make known to them? Or is it the same dyno'ing all cars? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Supersprint race exhaust

Hi

I've done alot of searching and was unable to come up with an accurate answer so far..

Can anyone give me an idea if and what amount oh HP gain I should expect after installing Supersprint Race Exhaust + Xpipe.

The only other mod I have is the carbon filters removed.

Anyones personal experiences are appreciated as well....

At this time, my choice in exhausts is probably limited to the Supersprint race+xpipe.

Guys, I saw a 2010 M5 with 314 miles in my local dealership. A sign on the window said the car has 250 miles of autocross on it, so there is no CPO or ext. warranty... My sale advisor told me there will be a good discount for this M5, but I'll find out in a next few days.

What do you guys thinks of this situation? How bad is the car after autocross?

The car looks new inside and out. Didn't feel anything wrong while test driving it.

Whats the highest mileage on a clutch so far?

I am wondering how many miles some of you have got out of a clutch? Both SMG and stick shifters can answer but from a personal point of view I am interested mainly in SMG. I am really looking for people that managed to pass the 30-40,000 mile point that seems common to replace a clutch... so if you got 50-60,000 miles or even more please post with mileage and how you drive, eg;

what smg settings you use
main types of road eg highway or city center traffic etc
do you use launch control ever.
Any quirky driving styles
do you bimble or thrash your M5/M6
And do you put the car in neutral when stationary at junctions or in traffic or do you leave it in gear with your foot on the brake like I think most of us do??

The last point of leaving the car in gear is of interest as I wonder whether this heats up the clutch discs causing hot spots, warping and wear?

Anyway it would be interesting to see if there are any high mileage clutchs out there.

Steering Wheel Lock

This week and periodically over the last several months, my steering wheel lock-out mechanism has locked the steering wheel and prevented me from starting the car. The error message says "...turn the steering wheel to unlock...." and this is a physical impossibility. No amount of tugging in either direction will release the steering wheel and it does not make a difference whether the key is in the ignition or not. Then, strangely, about 15-20 minutes later, the steering wheel will audibly unlock and I can start the car as if nothing ever happened. The same thing happened recently with my friend's M6. Mine is an 06 M5.

Anyone know what the problem is and how it is correctible?

E60 M5 Squeeky Gear Change

Hi,

Ive got an issue i think when my car changes gear i hear a squeak from the gearbox it only seems to happen when its a light change not an aggressive one.

Also PDC sensor is intermittant if i play with the wire it seems to work will this be a faulty sensor and its a coincidence it works sometimes or when they go is it just kaputt.

Also I can reach the sesor can it be removed without taking the bumper off if so can someone tell me how they are locked in as im useless at fumbling under the bedcovers :byebye:

New (to me) M5, and couple small problems.

Hi all,

Just picked up a 2006 M5 with 19k miles, in close to new condition. I like it a lot. I have a question: I was able to adjust the
seats and steering wheel at the dealer, but now neither can be adjusted. All the seat adjust buttons (driver and passenger) do nothing.
I feel like this is a key memory problem of some sort. The seats do move to their stored positions based on which key unlocks the car,
but they can't be adjusted any further. In any case, does any one know what I can do here, barring taking it to the dealer for programming? Also, the lights in the EDC and the POWER buttons don't light. Is this just a thing for the dealer to fix?

Thanks, and I'm so glad to finally own an M5 after years of lurking here. Oh, do you guys all own oil wells to keep this car fueled?

Help - WHINING Noise at start up (COLD)

Hey Everyone,
HOPE SOMEONE can help!!
At start up in the morning, I have a loud WHINING noise in the engine.
Can also feel the whine through vibration in the steering wheel.
After about 10 - 15 minutes of slow driving, it seems to subside and go away.
NO dashboard errors - has the usual rough noises (cold or warm from new) but this is supposed to be normal.
THIS HIGH PITCHED WHINE is obviously NOT!!
Can anyone HELP???
Do not want to take to the dealer quite yet, as when I do, it will be time to put the beast to bed for the winter!!!

Want to get at least a week or two more - is this something that I should be worrying about?

Warranty ending, is this all I need?

My warranty will end in about 600 miles and I am taking it in next week for a passenger airbag fault. Will they look the car over or do I have to specifically ask them to do so? I have searched this site and these are the things that people suggested asking them for:

1. rear diff fluid replacement

2. SMG fluid

3. brakes and/or brake fluid

4. coolant

5. "creaking" from door trim - teflon tape

6. wiper blades

7. software update - I read something about needing update to install ipod interface?

Are these all reasonable to ask for?
Would anyone add anything else?

when i go into iDrive, under service, there is a page that shows Front brakes, Rear brakes, oil, brake fluid, spark plugs, microfilter...
when it says Front Breaks - 41,000 Spark Plugs - 45,000 microfilter - 60,000 are those mileage counts the exact mileage count when i need that service, or is it counting down to that service? ... like do i need spark plugs at 45,000 miles, or do i need spark plugs 45,000 miles from my current mileage, and that number should be counting down?

Been looking all over the place but can't find anything to my taste.

I love the vorsteiner hood in quality but it just misses some aggression for that amount of money.

Then you have the VIS carbon GTR hood which I allready asked about but doesn't work for me either cause of the quality and the power bulge which is too big and nor smooth enough (like the vorsteiner)
Next to that fitment isn't good on these hoods, you need to invest a bit more to make it fit right
Guys from VIS did gave me a very good shipping quote and I like the more aggresive look.

Revozsport has got one which has got a nice smooth bulge and some nice, too my taste, looking vents but fitment is a big issue for me and shipping quote was too high.

I just can't find a decent hood with good fitment and a little more aggresion as the vorsteiner.

Ideal would be a vorsteiner M6 hood but for a M5 e60.

Just wondering if nobody could make something simular, or a professional business.
Doesn't have to be all carbon fiber but I just want something clean and a bit more aggresive for a reasonable price.

Not exactly a new owner - we're just using the engine out of a crashed M5 - but just signed up here because we'll probably need some help with something at some point :biggrin:

Anyhow, I have been reading through the board for a few months now, just a quick query, what could one roughly expect to see power-wise with:

Bigger airboxes + custom intakes, no MAF sensors - all on Alpha-N mapping.
Longer, straight intake trumpets in the airbox.
Full race exhaust inc. new manifolds and no cats.
VANOS delete + lightweight pullies.
Remap/Standalone.

Also got a very nice 3-plate 5.5" clutch, saving nearly 20kg(!) over a stock one!

after reading the rpi pulley installation thread, i figured i would post this up to see if the shop i went to was trying to over charge me for installing springs on the beast. they quoted me around 700-750 for installation. i thought that was kind of steep.. how much did you guys pay/ or were you quoted?

and anyone that lives in or around the houston area what are some reputable shops to get this done?

Redline motoroil in a M car?

We are all familiar with BMW's mantra to run Castrol 10W-60 TWS in the M cars. I have even had a stealer tell me that there is a "special additive" for these motors...hmmm

I use Redline for all of my non-M applications and have toed the party line for my M5 because of warranty concerns...but I just came across this...

This is NOT an engine that ran on Red Line motor oil. These photos are of a typical M54 engine, standard in E46 and E39 non-M cars from 1999 through 2005 that was filled with standard oil at the dealership. This nasty sludge can cause piston ring land carbon, oil feed clogging, drain back issues, deterioration and clogging of crankcase ventilation hoses and oil separators, and even VANOS issues.

and the cls and e class have 470 bhp for some reason with the same engine? whats the story with that please and which is fastest?

I figure that we are a fairly small community and thus I thought it would be a good idea to give big :thumbsup: to Sonic MS in Mountain View. I had a very good first time experience with Darwin, his brother and staff last week when I had them do some work for me.
Very personable, highly knowledgeable, and extremely friendly.

I am not from the area and they also helped me out by driving me and picking me up from a meeting that was 15 minutes away so they could work on the car while I was at my meeting.

Without mentioning any other names, there is another M5 shop that was only 2-3 minutes away from where I needed to be and they gave me nothing but hassles about picking/dropping me off and wanted to charge me another $100 for the work.

I was so impressed that I am seriously thinking about the Singh ECU that they recommend.

Anyways, enough ranting. I just wanted to say thanks to Darwin and his staff for your customer service. Keep up the good work!!

Does a Dinan pulley come with bolts?

I wasn't sure about Motorsport doing anything but a naturally aspirated engine or even doing an SUV/SAC. Well, I have to say, I am now singing a different tune. The 2010 BMW X6M is just executed with perfection. It is balanced and is far better in person than in the pictures on the web. This is just a solid piece of engineering. Check out the pix and the videos. The e63 M6 and the Gallardo Superleggera are happy to have a new stablemate. :wroom:

Help! Brakes are soft.

Working on my '07 M5. This is the 1st time I've turned a wrench on my machine and despite going slow and being careful somehow I've screwed up a simple install of stainless brake lines.
Problem as follows:

With engine running, brake pedal slowly fades to the floor, under steady firm pressure.
With engine off pedal feels fine.
Fluid reservoir level maintained throughout (didn't pull air in).
Did drivers side rear 1st. Bled with a vac pump (pulled 40mL through) checked pedal (engine off) and seemed fine.
Did passenger side rear same way. All seemed well.
Then when I started the engine the pedal was mush, went to the floor!
Haven't even touched the fronts yet.

I tried bleeding (the old fashioned 2 person pedal pump method) later, after all of above, when I had some assistance.
Result: Got quite a bit of air out of both sides. Fluid running clear no bubbles or sputtering after 3 - 4 goes.

No change! Pedal still fades to the floor after 5 - 10 seconds of push! (With engine running.)

No codes or indicators on the dash/iDrive. System check came up clean. I've run .5 liter through so far.

I notice with engine running: When I step on the brake there is a whirring sound, lasts 15 - 20 seconds then stops. Sounds like a pump running. Happens every time I push the pedal.

I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.

Just had fitted my winter tyres;

Pirelli W 240 Sottozero

285/35 R19 103V XL M+S marking 255/40 R19 101V XL M+S marking

Not cheap at �1000 fitted!hmmm

This is the first time I have done a winter tyre change, last winter I did get caught one day when I needed to get to work and overnight it snowed a bit on frozen ground, it was less than an inch but the M5 proper struggled, the first part of the journey that takes normally 10-15 mins took over 1 1/2 hours of 'interesting' driving lol!:noSMG:

I live in the country on single track roads, about 10 miles before I get out on descent A roads and at the momment the roads are wet, greasey and very muddy :M5launch: my Pirelli Corsa systems were great through the summer but now the wet weather is here and more importantly the cold they struggle for grip but to be fair to them the do hold on well and give plenty of notice and feed back when they do spin up.

First impressions on this cold winter day after a 60mile trip is... a massive improvement, no ****hering in the mud, excellent traction from junctions, no difference in road noise... can't wait to try them in the snow and ice in a months time or so:cool:

I will update this thread with my opinions and findings, so far so good:thumbsup:

ok i know there have been comparisons for differant versions of ae upgrades but i cannot find a comparsion for what i am currently running to any of the upgrades out there. i orginally had bought the piaa ae for e39 and they were fine but since then i bought an e60 m5 and installed the piaa ae's on it and they do not seem as bright. i am wanting something a little brighter so i guess narrowed down my options would be either the mtec v2 from umnitza or aib v3... my question is will these be brighter than what i am currently running? please help i have been searching for days and have come up blank. i dont want to spend 150-300 on something that will be virtually the same but if there will be a significant upgrade than i dont mind buying some news. also if there are any other options that would be brighter (other than the custom orion) please let me know.

Was at a party the other day was parked on a hill and other cars kind of boxed me in. The road was narrow and cars on both sides of the street. I kept my foot on the brake as i manuvered out of the parking place and was straight and the yellow cog appeared. I turned into a driveway and put it in reverse and the light went out. Can riding the brake cause the fault or is this the start of a problem? On another note I've read that the M5 uses a lot of oil. I have 52k on the odometer and have put 4k on the car since I got it and the oil level has not dropped a bit. I wish they would put a real live dip stick on the car just in case the oil level sensor goes kaput.:dunno:

Anyone familiar with these Turner Motorsport - Item# 54-11272 - aFe Cold Air Intake Kit for E60 M5 & E63/E64 M6 V10 - E60 E63 E64 and how, if anything, do they compare to the RPi ram-air scoops?

They are, of course different, but, seems to me that the aFe are pulling warm/hot air from the engine. How would this translate to increase hp?

So I was driving to the body shop, came to a stop in the parking lot, got back on the gas pedal to continue moving when that 'big bang' came like I was rear ended by another vehicle. The bang was so violent the car actually stalled out! I assume the clutch release bearing jammed up so bad that when it finally unjammed the clutch pulled out way too much causing the car to stall. That's at least what I think happened.

Anyone's car ever stall from this? It started back up and drove normally.

Offcoarse Vorsteiner came across but unfortunately this is too much when transfered over to my place (here in europe we don't have alot of choice besides the Big tuners)

So I found the VIS carbon GTR hood. Shipping quote wasn't too bad so.....

But I do want it to fit properly.

On the technical side, there is a sport suspension multiple adjustable on both axles in bound and rebound and lowering the car up to 45mm. Extra light and forged wheels were added to the package. On the front axle are Lumma Racing rims in 10�21” with tires size 255/30-21, on the rear axle 12Jx21 with tires from Michelin size 295/25-21. The wheelwork is three piece crafted, the rim star is forged, and dull black anodized and has stainless steel outer rims. To stop the sports limousine Lumma implemented a 6-pistons (rear axle 4-pistons) brake system, which affects on the front- and rear axle on a drilled brake disc dimension 405mm (380mm).

The 730hp V10 bi-compressor engine was obstructed from G-power. The limousine catapults itself within 4.2 seconds up to a speed of 100km/h. After 10 seconds the car has doubled the speed. After 29.5 seconds the car achieves 300km/h. Top speed is at 367,4km/h. This power output is achieved by a G-Power compressor system with ASA radial compressor. Also used is a Lumma sport exhaust system with 100 cells racing catalysts and 105mm end pipes made of stainless steel and engraved Lumma logo.

The cockpit of the CLR 730 RS got some refinements including a combination of carbon, leather and Ultra suede. The final outcome is a bicolor complete leather interior in red/white with stitched diamond patterns and white. The Ultra suede improvement was incorporated in the dashboard, the seat consoles and the coverages. All panels on the dashboard and the center console, the transmission control, the steering wheel, the hand brake lever and the backside of the sport seats are carbon. Finally everything is completed by suede car mats edged with leather, a trunk mat and sporty aluminum pedals and a footrest.

As the proud new owner of a E61 M5 in Sapphire Black I am thinking about either getting the OEM 166's powdercoated in Matt Black or going for a winter set of Breyton GTS in flat Black (Welcome to Breyton Wheels) Do any of you UK owners have any good wheel dealers you could refer me to or things to think about in terms of spacers etc which you could give me the heads up on please . So I'm at work today and I get in my M5 and out of nowhere when I start up the car I get the Red Cog of *****. I read the malfunction, and it states "Transmission Malfunction." So what did I do? I waited a minute or two to see if it would go away on it's own. It didn't go away. So I turned off the car. I then waited a few minutes and I then restarted the car. The Red Cog was then gone when I started up the car again. It was fine for the drive home.

Later today I then was on my way to go pick up a friend of mine and on the way I get a YELLOW COG saying limited engine performance. It then goes away after being displayed on my screen after a minute or two.

I think this may be a glitch in the system. The transmission has been great ever since I got it worked on. Back in June when I first got the car I had the clutch and the flywheel replaced with brand new ones, as well as a software update to the latest version.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had this happen. I don't think i should be getting transmission problems at this point. SO I'm thinking it's just a glitch. I'm also wondering if I should go ahead and take it into the dealership to see if anything is wrong with it. Any thoughts guys?

Windshield/Dash creaking noise!

I recently started getting the creaking noise everytime i backed out or go up the driveway. It seems to come from the center of the dashboard near the windshield. It seems to happen when the car flexes. Now its increasingly worse and sometimes I can hear it when i'm driving (accelerating). I've read in some threads that it comes from the 2 bolts in the middle that connect the front strut tower brace. Has anyone else had this problem recently? Also, has anyone tried to tighten these 2 bolts? It looks like I will have to remove a lot of plastic covers to access these bolts. Does anyone have instructions to access these bolts? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

SMG Problems

I brought my '06 (in service date 11/15/05) car to BMW SF dealership to get the clutch replaced exactly 2 weeks ago and the car is still there. I brought it in because of the clutch shudder problem when starting in 1st gear and low rpm in 2nd gear. Next day they determined the clutch was worn and the clutch was warrantied by BMW.

A couple of days later they called me back to let me know that when they installed the new clutch, it didn't want to initialize with the car, therefore it had to stay over the weekend. Early the next week, SA told me that the car may need a new transmission but the car has to be seen by a service engineer first for them to approve. Service engineer did not come that week nor has he came this week.

BMW discovered that it might have a problem with the solenoid (unsure of what that is), the dealer took photos of the transmission and sent them to the service engineer to see (not sure if this really happened). Later that week BMW SF got news from the factory telling them to remove and install the clutch again and try to re-initialize, but to no surprise, it didn't work.

Today, i got a call back again from the dealership saying BMW wants them to replace the clutch slave cylinder (which they claim they are allowed to do) and the part should be in tomorrow. Why can't they just replace the whole transmission? They are doing guess and check of what the problem is.

Does anyone know why the new clutch would not initialize? I don't know what the exact problem is but its been exactly 2 weeks of what i thought was a simple clutch replacement. Getting frustrated :sad3:

Guys,

Having just sold my E39 M5, and with E60 prices dropping nicely, im considering upgrading to one.

Ive only ever driven a friends one in anger for about 10mins on a very wet airstrip. As much as I love the car,
I really didnt get on with the SMG. Of course having driven it for such a short period I didnt have much time to play around
with my shifting technique (slight lift on the upchange etc). I just remember walking away from the car thinking ''awesome
machine, shame about the 'box''.

My question is has anyone been able to reprogram and effectivley sort out the SMG delay? aftermarket or otherwise?

Hi everybody
I've been looking for wheels for more than 3 months and I just cannot find what I need. My car is a 06 M5. Here are my criterias:
- 19" . I don't want to go 20" as I would like to go with Toyos R888 in 265/30/19 and 295/30/19
- Widths have to be 9 or 9,5 front, and 10 or 10,5 rear.
- The offsets should be OK with no spacers.
- I want them not too heavy. Let's say 26/27 lbs maximum.
- I'd like them from a big/known company so I am confident on quality.
- My wallet says maximum 500 € / 750 USD per wheel.

I prefer to buy locally in Europe to avoid huge transport costs, customs, VAT etc. But if needed I'll buy whereever.
Any idea?
I was keen to go with M6 competition package wheels, they are 27 lbs so a bit heavy, and the rear offset a bit aggresive, but ok, I went to BMW yesterday. Well they cannot sell these wheels, although I gave them the reference, they even do not find a price in their system ??????

I'm getting crazy and my rear tires are dead so it's becoming urgent.

I finally bit the bullet and dropped my car... Thanks to everyone that posted their impressions and pictures of various springs and especially to ezmoney888 for letting me drive his car so I could make a decision.

I've had the Dinan rear sway bar and Dinan front roll control kit sitting in my trunk for months after I had picked them up from Cosmos, thanks man!

AutoTalent got me the Eibach springs and 10mm spacers and they installed it all. Sam and Zoltie were awesome, as usual. They are the best shop that I have worked with, bar none. They are very knowledgeable, have great prices, are very friendly, have incredible customer service and support and they're great guys all around. I've dealt with them since I had my e46 M3 and they have never let me down. They come highly recommended.

As far as the ride, I've had the setup for about a week (I just got it aligned today at West End Alignment, thanks for the tip RPi!) and I'm liking it. The ride is stiffer and a tad bit more harsh. The stiffness and harshness is a definitely noticeable, but it isn't terrible and it isn't bone jarring. It's just a notch stiffer than stock. However, the car feels much sharper and handles noticeably better. There is far less body roll. The improvement in handling definitely cancels out whatever added harshness the springs give. Plus, I think it looks a whole lot better. I'm pretty happy.

Used S6 for the first time...

So, I've had my CPO'd 07 for about a month now. Absolutely love the car, power is outstanding everyone knows this. I have my M-sport mode set to P500S, S5, EDC Sport.

So last night I was messing around and figured I'd give S6 a go. Violent is probably the best description I have this mode. I couldn't believe how hard the shifts were, like power shifting. It was pretty cold out, 40f or so, the thing got a massive third gear chirp/ spin, sadly I had to let off before 4th. It was like unleashing a monster hard to believe the difference from S5 to S6.

So my question, does anyone drive S6 all the time? Normal driving for me is P500 S3.

What whp is expected from these mods?

Ahmed dynoed 438 whp in 32c and im wondering if thats a low or mid number for his mods. Hes got a 06' with evosport headers, eisnmann sport mufflers and x pipe, power pulley, and rpi scoops with stock filters. No ecu tune.

I ask cuz we are suspecting the dyno we've got isnt upto par and thus gave him and I low numbers.

Is my Tire Shop Ripping Me Off?

So I went in to have my winter wheels put on this weekend. The guy in my tire shop tells me that my summer rears are shot and will need to by replaced. I tell him that there is plenty of life left in the rear tiress and that I plan on putting them back on when the winter ends. He tells me there is no way they will put the wheels back on without new tires. I think he is just trying to sell be new tires prematurely. Here is a picture of one of them. I can still see plenty of tread.

At 11:59PM on November 8th, I saw an Alpine White M5 pulled over on the 57 freeway in Southern California around the Chapman Exit.

I was in a Sapphire Black M5 zipping past in the fast lane. I thought I recognized 5 series taillights from far off and just as I passed I got a quick glance of what seemed to me to be an M rear diffuser/quad exhaust and M5 wheels.

I was doing a little clean up and ran across this problem (see photo, sorry it's upside down). What is it and how do I get it off?
I think it probably came from a track event in October but I'm not certain. I know it wasn't there prior to track weekend and I haven't driven many miles since then.
Tried cleaning wax and clay bar with no effect whatsoever.

I am pretty pleased with my results. My only modifications are RPI pulley, Rogue exhaust, and 305 rear tires on 11" rims. I got the wider tires specifically so that I can drive every day in S6 without worrying about surprising myself with wheelspin... that objective has been met.

I ran about 10 times. Best ET: 12.364 @ 118.62 best trap: 12.407@120.28.

Looking over other times on there, it looks like both my ET and my trap are pretty good for a car with very few mods! 2006-2010 M5s on Dragtimes.

Launch control, S6, no wheelspin!!

Here's a video of my last run of the night (iPhone, sorry not great quality). Against a supercharged Mercury Marauder on Slicks. I was really slow on the R/T (.48 vs .12) so it doesn't look like it, but I ate his lunch. Wish his car wasn't so loud, I have never heard my car with this exhaust. Me: 12.413@117.84 him: 12.559@112.98.

Help listing my '06

I've had my '06 E60 on Autotrader.com for exactly one week and have had only one response. Also have it listed on Craigs List (L.A.) and no response there. With only 21.5k miles and $48,500 I thought it would get more action. Is there somewhere else I should be listed or have I priced it too high? Thanks in advance for any advice.

M5 ranks 2nd worst polluter on road. M6 is 3rd.

It is not based solely on fuel efficiency but rather the types of emissions produced and the quantity of each type.

The M5 was ranked 2nd while the M6 was ranked 3rd.

In the article, they stated that various AMG cars were not counted (even though they rate much more poorly) because of their small production numbers and the fact they are driven so infrequently (read: M5/M6 are every day super cars, higher end AMG models are not and therefore don't count).

I do have to say some of their information wasn't all that accurate. They listed the Dodge Ram 1500 as having 9 city / 12 hwy mpg. We have one (2009 model) and get an average of 14 driving around town with a lead foot and 17-18 on hwy. I've managed 21 on certain trips.

What does BMW new car corrosion protection actually cover just the body or the entire car?

My car is around 14 months old and all 20 of my lugnuts are heavily rusted. My brake caliper clips and hardware are all rusted out pretty bad it looks awfull as if my car was 10+ year old.

I am planning to take the car in about a week from now and I didnt know if I should bust balls for them to replace all these parts if the BMW corrosion warranty covers such items.

Any thoughts?
