FAO: UK M5 Owners!

Hi guys. Just wondering... I've been looking through the forums the last few days. I am getting an E60 M5 in the next few weeks. Hopefully in time for Le Mans in June. I just wanted to ask you if any of you have had any faults with the SMG in yoru cars over here. It seems to be a frequent (ish) problem with the US models. Just wondering if you have suffered any problems with your UK models and if so, what? Please get back to me!

Thanks in advance.

What year is your one bud? I'm looking at spending around £50k tops, and that will get me an 05/06 55 plate with low (ish) mileage. Some people from the states have been saying that is a bad year, due to faults... But i don't know if that is just the American market car's, and not the UK? Any ideas?

I have an 06 M6 and i bought that brand new for £83k and i have had no problems at all.

You can get a used M6 for 50k, i have been looking for another car and www.pistonheads.com is a good site.
you might find something on there.

I have a sep 06 car and no major issues, though I sent the car back for a few minor ones and ended up with new software. I paid just a little under 50k for mine and it has a relly good spec. Make sure and get the active seats, great for uk back roads.
As for the SMG its not bad but im still warming to it to be honest and as I only use the car at the weekends im not doing big miles.
As many others have told you warranty warranty warranty. Try and go as late a 06 car as poss, this way the man warranty will not expire for at least 18 months or so thus saving you 1k to renew it.

Cheers guys. I wouldn't buy one out of warranty ever!! I can't wait to get one, and i'll definitely be getting the bolster active seats! I test drove one at my local BMW dealer the other week, and fell in love! Shame it's not the colour i'm after.

Must admit i'm getting used to my M5's SMG. Tbh as long as its got warranty (and you take out extended warranty) then any faults can just be reset at the dealer.

There is also a DIY SMG reset sequence you can do whilst driving, I think it was posted over on EvoT

No issues with mine Jon. Its a Feb 06 with 14k on the clock. Best is to go to a dealer Jon, as you would get piece of mind especially with the 1 year warranty that you can get back to them J
