A friend of mine came up with the great idea of going to the technical inspection now, instead of waiting until June. By doing that, I'll have to go to the technical inspection in November from now on, which is not in the middle of the Ring season. As you all know, the rules in Belgium are rather strict, and it can be quite a lot of work to transform a car into a 'legal' state for the inspection, and transform it into a race state again afterwards.
The idea was to just go in the current setup, and see what should be changed, fix that, and go back.
The list of illegal items:
* ACS mirrors (no E-mark, so forbidden)
* No cat (a bit of a gray zone, since the car is older than '94, but was delivered with a cat)
* AP brakes
* Spacers
* Camber plates
* Rear silencer without the necessary documents
* KW suspension (is allowed, but has to be installed by an authorized company, and you need documents to prove that. I have no documents, since I installed them myself)
Quite a list... You know in advance that some items might be overlooked, but this list is just too big. Anyway, if you have to go back, they only check what was wrong the last time, so they can't pick new items from the list, and make you come back again and again.
I PASSED!!! No remarks whatsoever!
I would've expected that they would take more time to check out the car completely, since it looks racy, but they didn't. In fact we had a friendly chat about racing on the Ring etc...
So, I only need another technical inspection after the next Ring season!! Let the modding begin!!!
That's great news! Are we definitely NOT going to see you up there this winter? It seems kind of mild so far...
Im pretty sure that I will not be as lucky.... lots of mods on my car that are not 100% legal. So probably I will leave some 50euro bill in the seat of my car to lublicate the process.
There is some minor progress on the car. Not much time lately...
Seats and panels are removed.
Trunk is completely empty (carpet, plastic etc removed)
Center console removed
Sunroof removed, and disassembled. We'll weld it back in in the next week.
Will take some pictures in the next few days if I don't forget.
Next things up are removing the steering wheel and the dashboard, and then remove the carpet and the damping material under the carpet.
